I’m about to experiment with this, my latency through plugins has been atrocious since upgrading studio one. Oddly when I used to use Reaper this wasn’t an issue.
@unwantless4 ай бұрын
late comment here, but on Ableton it says my input latency is 22 m/s but if i use direct monitoring i know it becomes 0 m/s would. so i thought that recording with direct monitoring would record make my vocals sound off beat since i am hearing it at 0/ms (direct monitoring) and their being recorded at 22 m/s. Am i wrong, and is direct monitoring also affected by your input latency?
@popjazzkeys4 ай бұрын
With direct monitoring you will hear no delay of your vocal in regards to the playback coming from your computer. The recording in Ableton will be perfectly in sync with the rest of the music thankfully. That's why direct monitoring is such a great solution.

If you have a silicon powered MAC, yes, Logic mastering is free. However, if like me, you have an intel MAC (and no business case to replace with a silicon MAC in the near future), the Logic mastering features are very limited. Hence, Ozone, with one of the many discounts available, can be a great option to have some AI powered mastering.
@philipmarsh35228 ай бұрын
I have both and while Ozone is more flexible and has a lot more features, I honestly think that overall one can use just Logic to produce professional music without any additional cost or plug ins. Granted, a full-service production studio might have somewhat higher expectations but I doubt they are much of a value add until someone is ready to sell music at a large scale. I've even found that the sound library and built-in instruments in Logic suffice most of the time for an entire project and am often overwhelmed by too many options. Let's face it most of us probably don't have the skill to use most of these mastering suites anyway and unless you are a mixing engineer having more sliders and buttons doesn't really improve ears.
@musictrainingonline8 ай бұрын
Yes, most musicians will be happy with Logic's Mastering plugin. Ozone is for people that really know what they want and how to get there, like trained engineers. So just as you wrote, when you want a quick master of your Logic project, use its mastering plugin.

I think you didn't quite get the point of the video, and probably didn't even watch it all the way through. This is not a tutorial on Mastering with Logic's Mastering Assistant, or Ozone. It's about comparing the result after Logic's and Ozone's Mastering Assistant AI did its thing without manually changing anything afterwards. The video is just about that. Sorry that this didn't come through clearly enough for you. I just wanted to see how the AI algorithms compare. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Ozone is way better for the simple fact that you can use all the presets instead of just 1 because you don’t have an M1 Mac

I agree that Ozone is the more professional way to go, and I say so in the video. And those that don't have Logic Pro won't be able to use Logic's free mastering assistant anyway. I just wanted to show that it can come in handy when you have Logic Pro and want to master a song quickly for demo purposes with pretty good results.

@@popjazzkeys It just sucks that Apple is doing Apple things. Locking simple features behind their newest hardware knowing they could easily support the intel Mac users.
@musictrainingonline Жыл бұрын
@@MarkYeeDaMajor True . But you have to understand that you never have to pay for a Logic Pro upgrade. 15 years ago I bought Logic Pro for 200 Dollars and never had to pay for any upgrade since. The downside is that you have to upgrade your computer frequently to run the newest features. In comparison, I spend 2300 Dollars on iZotope Ozone with all the payed upgrades over 12 years. That's the costs of a beautiful brand-new M3 MacBook Pro.

@jamesnyers1721 Жыл бұрын
@@MarkYeeDaMajorActually not true. Apple Silicon chips have some AI hardware that Intel chips simply don't have. Of course Apple could do the work twice, and somehow make it work on Intel chips too, but why? Intel is in the past now. If anybody is just a little bit serious about music and likes Logic, just get at least an M1 mac mini for a few hundred bucks. It is amazing. Huge difference compared to Intel. When everything is running natively (OS/Logic/all third party plugins) the experience is just amazing with Logic.
@brentinjapan Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. Great idea for a video. I listened on my iPhone speaker and I heard a difference. The Ozone is much fuller and deeper in dimension. But everything from mid range up sounded. very similar. For anyone with Logic who knows how to tweak it and isn’t a pro, maybe no need for Ozone.

Is there a non-stupid way to do it?
@musictrainingonline Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is now. Since I published this video Logic implemented a new feature that lets you do it. You find it in the manual assuming you have the newest version.
@orbitfold Жыл бұрын
@@musictrainingonline I don't think there is. The new functionality still doesn't do what everyone would reasonably expect from it - the MIDI equivalent of bouncing to audio. I want to place some MIDI effects and have the option to bake them into my MIDI region. I imagine I can do some MIDI routing to achieve this in the Environment view which they are so ashamed off they have it hidden. The only way to do this properly is a 3rd party plug-in it seems. Which is profoundly idiotic for such a basic task.
@musictrainingonline Жыл бұрын
@@orbitfold You are right. In order to run a recorded midi region through any of the FX plugins and then have Logic record the output you still have to do it the way I explained it in the video. But with the new feature you can at least record the midi FX plugins output in real time as you play your midi keyboard. The following is straight out Logic's menu: Record MIDI plug-in output in Logic Pro for Mac "Record MIDI to Track Here' lets you record the output of MIDI effects to a MIDI region on a track. For example, instead of just recording the notes you play to trigger the effects, Record MIDI to Track Here lets you record their real-time processed output, allowing precise editing of the resulting notes and controller data. Add Record MIDI to Track Here To capture the output of plug-ins, add Record MIDI to Track Here to the slot after the last MIDI plug-in you want to record. Any other plug-ins after the Record MIDI to Track Here slot will not be included in the recording. To record the output of MIDI effect plug-ins, do the following: Insert the MIDI plug-ins you want to record. Click the arrows near the right edge of the last MIDI plug-in in the chain that you want to record. Choose Record MIDI to Track Here from the MIDI plug-ins pop-up menu. Record your sequence to a MIDI region. Note: Record MIDI to Track Here will appear as two small yellow triangles in the MIDI Effect slot, directly below the plug-in where it was inserted.

Thanks for the video, it's highly informative. Is it possible to have the midi playback the chart as it looks, with the rhythm corresponding with the chord symbols?
@popjazzkeys2 жыл бұрын
Thanks much for the kind words. To answer your question. Yes! You can insert the notes you want to be played back as usual before applying the Rhythmic Notation style. You can even do this for bass and piano by using layers and assigning different sounds to each layer. This can get tricky though.

@@JP1979TRP Jason, Finale can play back chord symbols, as long as you start out with a template. I recommend the handwritten jazz template, to make sure it understands the chords you enter correctly. @RaddMann32 жыл бұрын
@@musictrainingonline So I tried it last night and I can't get it to work. Arturia Pigments is a synth plugin. It has a very nice ARP and Sequencer built into the plugin that takes midi notes from track and plays complex arps or sequences. Since it sits in the synth plugin slot instead of the MIDI fx slot I can't change it to external instrument. The problem becomes that I don't know how to route MIDI out from the Pigments plugin to IAC. I have heard that Logic AU synth plugins are not allowed to output MIDI and this may be why I can't do it. I would really love to know if anybody can give me a good answer.

I'm not sold on Simply Piano. We signed up a few weeks ago and it feels like it rushes beginners too much. We purchased this for our children.. I took many years of piano and I can tell they're looking intimidated. It lacks a "wait for me" mode so beginners are easily intimidated - especially kids with small hands who have trouble enough to play with the proper hand positions. FlowKey has a wait on me "temp mode" that lets you practice at your pace as you learn to read the sheet music. As you learn you speed up and eventually can play at 50-75-100% temp. Would be curious to see your opinion. While one could train and learn to read sheet music outside of SimplePiano and then jump into Simply piano, as an all in one shop I have to say I was underwhelmed. Even Flowkey isn't the best overall option IMHO as it's a bit too "adult" in terms of layout. Yousician seems like one option for beginners that's also worth looking at.

I posted this video several years ago. Meanwhile, I taught 30 kids on piano maestro, which is the upgraded version of simply piano that is used by instructors that want to enroll their kids so they can use the app for free. For teachers and parents this app has proven to be a life saver. Of course children under the age of 6 need guidance in how to use the app. And I think they should have a real teacher sitting next to them for at least a year. Many of my kids got real good in using it, which is very exciting for the parents, because they don't have to help them practice. The instant feedback the app gives to the kids and the reward system keeps them going on their own. In piano maestro, everything can be adjusted. Not only has it a learn mode where the song gets split into very simple exercises first, but the tempo can be adjusted, and you can pause anywhere you want and restart by just tapping on the screen. So when you feel rushed, just bring down the tempo. I had great success using this app along with conventional teaching techniques.
