Heya Dave. I have some rust on my metal shed roof where a previous rust converter application has caused the paint to flake away. Do you recommend sanding the loose paint away prior to applying the Feronite Rusty Metal Primer?

This is a brilliant video, it answered a lot of questions that I didn't realise needed answering lol!

If it is rusty on the top it is likely to also be rusty underneath especially around edges and laps. I think as I said in other comments you have to lift the iron and treat / paint rusted areas. My roof has rusted far more on the underside especially at the edges and in between laps.

personally i would have rented a 5 bag sandblast pot and a few bags of black beauty and brush blasted the bad areas of roof then blew it off with the blast hose to clean it. then rolled a good coat of iron oxide primer on it followed 2 days later by rolling a coat of white hi-gloss industrial enamel on it. you would have to come back 8 years later and wash it off with a powerwasher and soap , let it dry ,then roll one more coat of white industrial enamel on it to make sure you would get another 15 years out of it. the white reflects the suns heat and makes it much cooler under there in summers, and the hi gloss enamel makes snow and rain&dirt run off fast as it does off a cars finish. if you wanted to get 30 years out of it you could rent a sprayer and spray the underside with iron oxide when you primed the top.. no need to put finish coat inside.

Rust continues to eat through to other side of metal it's best to remove &replace with new product. Covering it is only a temporary fix and a future nightmare to deal with down the road. Always best to do it Right the first time. Maybe Remove Rust and treat Before Screwing it to Rafter's.

Treat both sides of metal before screwing it to Rafters.

Couldn’t agree more as indicated in my separate comments. When I worked as a paint chemist in Dulux it was well known that a corrugated iron roof properly primed and painted both sides could last up to 70 years in NZ climate but no one does that (except me when I re roofed my garage as it has a flat roof) . The long run iron which roofers cut to size on site certainly helps by avoiding laps.

How well would this work in making props? I'm working on a bat and tried to make a duct tape mold followed by spraying can foam in. The mold ended up spliting along the seam and being severely misshapen. Is there a way to estimate how much it'll expand?

I won’t to glue rubber or nolathene to steel to be used as a bump stop on a hot rod as I can’t get drill anywhere close

Hi, thanks for the comparison video. Just wondering how many litres of lemon peel would you need to strip the antifoul from this boat?

Hello, our company is leading recycler of plastics in India. We have Tonnes of peel ply waste. It is impossible to remove the resin or the silicone coating from it. Is it possible to provide any solution for the same? It would be a great help for us.

My caravan door has fallen off its hinges on the bottom. The top is hanging on for dear life. I know nothing about renos. Dya reckon I could put the goop in the previous holes and then screw new brackets on? Or would that not hold? The caravan was probably built in the 1970s/early 80s but I need it to keep living for a few more years to house one of my teenagers. If you see thus and reply, THANKS, MATE

probably would work. 2 part epoxy glue. the stuff you get in your local shop will do the trick. assuming you dont want the screw to ever come back out again. if you do you can fill the hole, pre drill it slightly smaller and then put the screw in. but you commented 3 weeks ago so i imagine you have fixed it already.

old vid but just what i was looking for, couldn't decide weather to use body filler, weld it up or epoxy for 4 small holes in my camp trailer. The tape under the hole and epoxy worked great after rust treating it.

Ive used Bote Cote for timber restoration on heritage windows doors and sills. Mainly to seal raw timber after rot has been removed then as a adhesive when I scarf in new timber repairs (non structural) and as a filler prior to painting. Its worked very well, what your thoughts on this. I have a large restoration coming up and wanted to use Bote Cote.
