I loved my 1979 280ZX in silver and blue. I had it for just 3 months until a drunk driver in a stolen car hit it while it was parked outside my office. It was in 1989. We all have those cars we miss and still wish we had - that was one of mine. Nice 1978 you have here.

I was in junior high when this car was released. I can remember, along with my other car nut friends, the horror at seeing the headlights stuck on the fenders without covers. Biggest problem here in Texas was the heat and the scarcity of air conditioning. Still a lovely car!

I used to have one of those in 1973, but with wire wheels. I drove that thing all over the country. I think the cost was around $3200.

I said it 30 years ago, 20 years ago, 10 years ago, and it's still true today; the 64 Avanti body, looks like it just came off the assembly line.. It looks as new today as any car out there. Better than many, maybe even most.

How sad that someone could buy a beautiful car like this in 1966 and cheapen out by deleting air conditioning! I remember this first gen of Charger well and when the buyers wisely chose a/c it worked beautifully, giving year-round fun and comfort.
@leedoss6905Ай бұрын
AC just wasn't that common back then like it is now. Lots of cars didn't have AC. I would have gotten the AC and a 3 speed automatic on the floor myself.
@loveisall5520Ай бұрын
@@leedoss6905 I know that it's because in 1966 I lived in Texas that all but the cheapest cars came with a/c. The sad part is that northern people didn't understand that the a/c is useful down into the forties and thirties for reducing humidity. The good part is that Vintage Air is available and is probably more efficient and reliable than what we were using back then! Best wishes from the Houston/Galveston metro area.

@@loveisall5520 I live in Texas as well South East of Austin. I lived in Anglton Texas for 10 years with just a window unit in the house. I'm was born in Texas but 5 years in Southern Missouri and 6 years in Southeast Oklahoma close to Mena Arkansas. No AC. @@leedoss6905 I'm in Lake Jackson, 10min from Angleton; I lived in Houston for decades. I was a chemistry major at the University of Texas/Austin. I used to see TR3's around town all the time and wanted one but couldn't afford it. Drove my '61 Chevy Biscayne, 235cu in six, 3/tree, with a box a/c under the dash. But, as you know probably, it mostly sat in the lot 'cause we all rode bicycles.

@@loveisall5520 I missed out buying a two door 66 Plymouth Belvedere with a 383 in Anglton in the 90s. I got ticked because the guy said it was a 440. Easy to tell the difference between a B and a RB engine. So I passed on the 1900 dollar price tag. It was cherry red no dents and a fresh balanced and blueprinted engine. I'm still kicking myself. A frigging beautiful car.

Brings back happy memories of my mom's 1961 Dart Pioneer (almost identical, but a little different) during my childhood. It was white with a blue interior. At the time, it seemed a bit bland compared to some of the neighbors' cars - but when you were a kid back then, all cars were interesting and fun. I must say, though, that dear old mom's '61 Dart never looked as nice as this one!

It's gold with black interior. The fuel pump went bad several years ago and has been parked ever since. It needs quite a bit of love at this point.

This is an example of “razor edge”coackwork, which F&W were famous. Being 1947 it is probably 4.25 litres the engine was later made into 4.5 and I think 4.75 before its final development as 4.9 litres. At this point RR decided the engine could not be developed further and introduced the 6.25 V8 which eventually developed into the 6.75 twin turbo about 50 years later.
