Thats not worm tea, You need to empty out a few times first, after the worms have been there for a few months then collect but then you cycle it around with a fish tank pump to aerate the worm juice then add molasses tk feed the good microbes do this for at least 24 hrs. Now you have worm tea.

This video was so awesome to find. I've been wanting to make something like this to make my own worm fertilizer. Thank you for this wonderful share!

You can easily cut plastic with standard contractor's twine. Haven't finished the video but I wanted to let you know. Use it like you would a wire saw.

Hi, congratulations on a effective and inexpensive design! 🙂What size are the holes in the garden sieve? Would a sieve with slightly bigger holes still work and prevent the finished castings (and worms) from working their way through into the worm tea reservoir below? I can't find a large enough diameter plastic one like yours on Amazon. My local hardware store has a nice large 368mm (14.5") diameter galvanized steel one, but the holes look like they are around 12 to 14mm wide (approx. 1/2 inch). Do you think that would still work? If the mature castings will stay up in the bottom of the container with the entire bottom cut out, then surely a mesh size 14mm wide in the collection tray would be small enough to contain them! I suppose I could also place an initial layer of newspaper or cardboard across the screen to help contain things while the compost is still fresh? Cheers from Canada.

I'm jhust now working on a close relative of your DIY bin :)) It's using a 60 L ( medium / small) size wheelie bin, with a $10 plastic garden pot from nursery ( same shape, smaller than wheelie bin, fits easily with 10 or 20 cm gap at sides and top, and i made holes all along sides and bottom has large round holes so far . ... just thyinking how to adapt so castings can be caught below the larger bin without lifting anything, similar to the NZ designed 'Hungry Bin', which looks great , is made from used council large wheelie bins, and sells at Bunnings for close to $500 !!! Mine is half that size and very similar ... a cross between yours and the hungry bin model. I have also made a large DIY very cheap version of an Australian design ( really more for verandahs , small gardens but very efficient for the small area it allows planting... if you look up COMPOSTA you can find it . I have one and it's so good ( centre 'cone ' with lid holds worms and feed for them It sits in centre of a round 'pot with legs , and the centre piece is open at bottom if you want to harvest castings but no need ... castings and leachate / juice flows through to the surrounding soil, and constantly fertilises. It houses maybe 500 to max 1000 worms but 500 is perfect . I'm making a large version of that , using a plastic 'pond' about 30 cm deep and 1.5 m diameter, and a round plastic garden pot with holes for worms to travel in and out ( out from centre worm and food pot, into surrounding potting mix and planted area. ) It will house at least 2000 worms, perhaps more. Anyway , thanks for the ideas and I hope to buy seeds from you soon . From Sunshine Coast Qld. Oh... I also have a medium/small wheelie bin I put a 10 cm piece of poly pipe in centre of bedding, with many holes for worm migration, and drain holes at bottom of bin, I feed scraps etc into centre poly pipe, for worm migration, and they love it. All my worms are breeding madly . It's an addictive hobby !!!

By far the easiest flow thru worm farm I have seen. Probably your wooden spacers make the aeration holes on the top bin unnecessary, so even less work to make it. Gonna try this at home. ;-) Thanks for sharing!.

my local Bunnings doesn't stock the Maze water tanks or taps, however the maze worm farm section sells a tap for the worm farm that would do the same function.if you are planning on making this.

Another thing is to check what the neighbor grows and ask to purchase seeds from plants and varieties that already grow there 😂.why try to grow oranges in Canada 🇨🇦 for example.many plants are grown in places because they thrive and are almost invasive 😂like yams or some herbs like mint

Thanks for a harvesting video. Just went down to bunnings and picked up everything I need to make one. Two questions, does the tap that you use have a filter to stop casting materials coming through? And once you've harvested your castings from a full bin, what do you after that? Do you just leave the worms as they were and the catcher will just refill? Thanks :)

Im looking at other ideas and bins and love yours to replace one of mine but I dont care for the wood in the handles. I think i have an idea that you might like. Why not put a brick in the bottom of your bin to lift it up? The way the handle was bending against the wood without any worms or castings in it seemed like it would become problematic.

Good ideas there with the bin and garden riddle awesome. One tip i try and tell anyone i see doing this is.. Dont use use paper especially news paper there are so many chemicals present in news papers that are these days highly recycled from pulps and they contain lead and all sorts of nasty chemicals that leach out into your collected leachate concentrate. I used to be a soil bio tech and ive tested this collected worm just from Asian wormery farmers and due to the results they use rice husks and other natural media inc banana and papaya leaves etc hope this helps. You can search chemicals present in news papers and other or most recycled papers its not good even if the ink used is soya etc. Goif luck with your projects a big thumbs up and ill subscribe and look forward to future vids. Be safe there and have fun. Chris uk

Would love to see the second harvest of worm castings. Even with so much of the bottom of the top bin cut away, I am not sure worm castings are going to fall into the collection sieve. With vertical migration systems like this, there almost always needs to be a tool (like a garden rake) to scrape the worm castings out of the top bin, they don't just fall.

I’ve harvested it probably about 10 times over the years now. The weight of it seems to push it down as it’s not as tapered I guess as some other designs. But if you have a problem I guess just use a garden trowel or something?
