I was never a big fan of anime openings before (I always skipped them), but then I heard "Velonica" (opening 9) for the first time by accident in youtube video and realized how wrong I was. "Velonica" is still my favorite Bleach opening, even with newer, better ones.

So I am pretty late on this, but a bit of context: The premise of the world of Bleach is that people with powerful souls can see ghosts, and our protagonist and a few of his friends are humans like that, but most of the characters that appear in the openings are Spiritual beings. The start of OP 13 Ranbu no Melody, reflects this as it shows things happening but how a non-special person would see them - a clash in the air creates a powerful shockwave, and you only see the clouds dispersing; a character launches a water ability down towards the ground, you only see a sudden flood of water. The main character isn't a bog-standard human with a powerful soul, the story starts with how he becomes a Shinigami (Japanese for "Death God") or Soul Reaper in the dub - a Soul who guides ghosts to the afterlife and exorcises what are basically evil spirits (by fighting them with magic swords because that is cooler). The ones dressed mostly in black old-school Japanese clothes are the Reapers. The Reapers who go to the Living World often make use of a dummy material body they possess to interact with people (and pretend to be normal people, like the short Reaper girl with the black hair attending the MC's high school as a student). The MC does this too but, he doesn't have a fake body, he uses his own normal human one. When it's time to go to work (fight), they leave their material body to stand on business - this happens a bit into the 4th opening. A lot of the stuff that seems all over the place with the visuals in the opening is either something of the above, or you've run into the OPs for a filler arc - OPs 4, 8, 11 and 14 are all from filler, though the anime adaptation sometimes changes canon material to pretend that the filler actually happened. The setting for the openings often change too, depending on where each arc takes place in - the World of the Living or one of the Spirit Worlds (only 2 really prominently feature as locations - Soul Society, the Feudal Japan-looking place where the Reapers live and Hueco Mundo, the desert-y place where the evil spirits hang out). Opening 17 is mostly a ton of visual metaphor when the characters aren't in their "battle outfits". Thousand Year Blood War is a continuation of the anime adaptation - the original anime ended before diving into a sizeable arc in the manga, which hadn't finished yet. Fans like me have been waiting for literally 10 years for it to get adapted, and the author of the manga is also cooking up another major arc now, though only a trailer chapter has been released so far. Also fun fact - the band SCANDAL and Aqua Timez are the only artists to my knowledge to make more than 1 opening for Bleach, as SC made both 10 and 15 while AT made 6 and 9 as well as one of the Endings. The former are an all-women pop rock band that formed 2 years after the anime adaptation of Bleach started airing, as such the song for OP10 "Shojo S" was actually their 3rd major single ever, and they are still active now. They also did one of the openings for Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Aqua Timez were active before Bleach as they formed in 2003, but they disbanded in 2018 and came back together this year. Their work has also been used on a larger number of high profile anime than SCANDAL as they made ending themes for Naruto, Gintama and Magi.

This whole series was a passion project by One and Bones studio!!! They put their sweat and blood into this and surely enjoyed themselves!! The band in the openings is called Mob Choir and its the animators, the producers and stuff singing in it!!! The author, One, also made One Punch Man but it was more of a targetted work for a certain marketing type and have a more profesional animation style, while Mob Psycho 100 has a free, messy yet enticing art style!!
