Hard to believe you didn't catch a billion Red Snapper. Last week off Savannah on the 13 out mile reef, we couldn't stop catching snapper, which sucks because couldn't keep anything. Hooked into around an 8ft shark to start the day. After an hour, we got him to the boat to photo in the water before just cutting the leader. Kings are so much fun to catch, but I can't stand eating them due to the amount of oil they have. Any day catching is a good day.
@absaltwateradventuresКүн бұрын
Yeah, the American Snappers are way thicker down that way! Same issue we had fishing out of St. Augustine a year ago. We love to eat Kings, but you have to cut the blood line out and they are better fresh, not frozen. Thanks for watching and good luck on the water! Tight lines and God Bless!

Nice day for the clients! Sometimes the "sporty" days are the best fishing days! I have watched all of your resto videos, and you did one heck of a rebuild job on that boat. It looks fantastic! How do you like the spray rails down that low? I notice that you didn't trim the bow down. I have a Shammy 26 as well, and was going to install Smartrails up about 11" from the chine, so they won't interfere with bow entry when trimmed.
@absaltwateradventures3 күн бұрын
Thank you! The spray rails work great for my 26, I do run with the bow down, but sometimes in a following sea i will trim the bow up for a softer ride. My boat cruises at 26-27mph which allows the bow to lift and push water down and away with the rails. Thanks again for watching!

I don’t know if you have the space under your oil filter but I like to take a 1 quart water or soda bottle,cut off the top and slide it around the oil filter. Loosen it with a wrench at first slide it under and loosen the filter and the oil goes into the water bottle.

You did a beautiful job restoring your Shamrock. How's the 6.2 working out for you, and have you thought about putting a bow thruster on it? I've followed your channel during the restoration, and I'm subscribed. I have a 26' Shamrock Express, with the Cummins Diesel. They're great boats. I'm also happy to see your son trying to teach how to do maintenance (LOL 😆). God bless you and your family.

Thank you! The 6.0 Crusader has been awesome! Fuel burn averages 1.6 to 2.0 mpg (depending on load). Cruising speed is around 25-26 mph. Max is 30-35mph. I had a bow thruster for it, but decided the cost wasn't worth the install as well as the extra weight in batteries. I plan to add a trolling motor this season so that will take the space for the batts. How do you like the cummins?! If i ever convert to diesel that will be my route. Thanks again for following along and have a blessed day!
@henryratajczak78063 ай бұрын
@@absaltwateradventures I absolutely love the Cummins Diesel, 300 diamond performance 6BTA. I'm getting 7-8 miles to the gallon (depending on load) the same speed as you're getting. I have a bow thruster (Florida Bow thruster, the guys name is Tom, Merritt Island Florida) and it doesn't take any more batteries to operate it. Strike Marine in Hollywood FL did the gasoline to diesel conversion. I had it re shafed to 1.5" due to the torque of the diesel along with switching to a 5 blade prop

@@henryratajczak7806 Where did you find a 5-blade prop that'll fit under a 26' Shamrock? I'm running a Yanmar 4LH diesel at 2.04:1 in mine and would love to run a fiver with about 20" pitch, but have had no luck finding one that'll fit. With the 4-cyl engine and nearly even gear ratio, 4-blades gives bad harmonics.

@@hawkeye5469 Hi Hawkeye, all the Maine boat builders (down east) can help keep it. Michigan Wheel is what I have, I believe it's a Star Kaplan. Lauderdale propeller/marine propulsion, State Road 84 Ft. Lauderdale. When I did my repower upgrade, I went to a 2.1 gear ratio ZF . Lauderdale Propeller worked it out for me. They're about the best in the industry of propeller world.

I really like Garmins products especially their tech support just a great company. Do you feel the Garmin unit is worth the additional cost compared to Standard Horizons or Icom?
@absaltwateradventures7 ай бұрын
I like Garmin and have used them for a long time. I think Icoms are great too. Garmin Units have always been user friendly compared to some of the other stuff out there, so they have always been my top choice.
@cwisted53086 ай бұрын
Ill add something real quick bouncing off what he said in his response to you. I have many friends who are captains for charter and for personal recreation and all of them love Garmin because of how user friendly everything is. It's definitely more expensive but they have told me its the whole buy once cry once deal. I've always used garmin for anything from smart watches to handheld GPS units and they have never failed me and the customer service is great when you need it like asking for proper info on updates for devices when you can't find a proper answer online as an example. I've also had hands on experience with the chartplotters and radar with Garmin and they are incredible in my opinion and do everything you need.

I had a question about 'still hunting'. I've been on 'still hunting' only gamelands, and people were using climbing tree stands. You mentioned using a portable blind, I have one like a small tent. The harvest report mentions- "Participation by hunting methods: Two types of hunting methods are utilized in North Carolina, still/stand and dog hunting", so NC treats them as same? But other sources refer to 'still hunting' as defined as stalking, or moving with periods of stillness- "Some interpret it as “sitting still,” like stand hunting, which it most assuredly is not." So I won't get a ticket if I'm in a blind?
@absaltwateradventures9 ай бұрын
I don't think so. I have used blinds on public land for both deer hunting and turkey hunting in NC and never had any issues before. Hope the info helps!
@EdsPlace9 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing. Just checked NCWRC Bear Report 2020. They list data for harvest method by unit and county, but don't report method data specific permit hunts. You're suspicion that permit fee's are elicited dishonestly and being used for other purpose may be correct. From the report- "Submission rates from bears taken on Pond Mountain (33%), followed by Mt. Mitchell Bear Sanctuary (45%) are the lowest of all permit hunts, while highest on Dare Bombing Range (100%), followed by Daniel Boone Bear Sanctuary (80%), the former due to the Commission’s physical check station." They have 100% harvest reporting data, but I don't see method of harvest for the permit hunts. I suspect the bear stay bedded down unless hit by dogs, due to pressure you mentioned.
@absaltwateradventures9 ай бұрын
Good to know! I do think there is a opportunity to harvest a bear there, but it has a lot of traffic that is non related to bear hunting which adds more pressure than we knew before hunting there. Wish you the best of luck there and let us know if you get one!

@absaltwateradventures9 ай бұрын
Our boat is a fully custom 260 Open. For build videos and layout of the design, we would recommend checking out our build episodes. Don't know much about the Mackinaws but make sure there is no issues with the stringers due to water/rot. We love our boat, and it makes a great charter boat for offshore. Only wish it had twin motors. But it is very economical to operate and ours is a lot faster than most. Hope this information helps and best of luck on your purchase!
