Thank you, if you are interested I will give you more information. We can meet later in the Bahamas. The Skoota 32 is being built in Lima (Peru). I have adopted some of your changes: the steering position with a view through the saloon, the hull extension for better entry into the water. I will extend the cockpit area by another 60cm as I need more space, see my electrical design in the appendix. It will now be an E catamaran.

I can only say, 2 years to build this Cat is not much time. I’m building currently a 53’ x 20’ Power-Cat, also in Florida, but unfortunately not in a enclosed environment. I started in July of 2021, was hit by Hurricane Ian in 2022, which did quite some damage, and cost me over a year to recover. Than this year again the boat building site was hit by hurricane Helene (fortunately not so bad), and 10 days later by hurricane Milton, which caused much more damage because of the flooding (had about 36” of water at the boat building site). The following clean-up cost me about 60 days of work and the loss of some boat building material. My friend who initially was helping me, got Covid in August 2022, got to the hospital because he was scared (against my advice), where they put him on oxygen and Remdesivir, which scared his lung, and ruined his kidneys and can since not help me anymore, so since then I do all the work alone, which slows the completion down considerably. However, I am not giving up, and are poised to finish the project no matter what awaits me ! The first hull is finished, the second one will be finished beginning January 2025, than the hulls will be turned around, connected, the deck-underside and the main deck floor installed, plumbing and electrical pre-installed… and than the main deck structure and the “roof” erected, which should go much quicker. Maybe some time in the future our ways will cross, and we can enjoy a drink and meal together on our boats. Until than, stay safe, and enjoy your cruises and boat ! Helmuth & Amy By the way, I’m not so good in making videos also…😂

I've followed your videos under my other moniker (Fred Flintstone). I've just bought a partially completed Skoota 36 (adapted to be a 40ft boat). It is about 70% completed. It needs a full fit out of electrics, plumbing, the transom needs completing, the propulsion system and navigational stuff. Are the walls and ceilings in your hulls finished fibreglass? My cat is plywood with fibreglass sheathing. I think the original builder was going to line the wall and ceilings with vinyl panels. I'm planning on trying to kit the cat out as an electric boat, using possibly Aquamot Trend 15.0 electric outboards or if I can afford them, the new Epropulsion X20 outboards.

Thanks for the comment..our whole interior is somewhat faired fiberglass painted with rust oleum topside paint..no additional covering. ..sounds like a fun project…put as many solar panels on it as possible..we are using glass solar panels..we have not found any reasonably priced flexible panels that last more then a few months in tropical sun..wish you the best..Mike

So it’s basically just cheap thin wood covered in fiberglass and foam to float? How strong are these things then are they capable of hitting offshore big waves high winds without tearing apart

No wood = No rot There is no wood on this boat. If you watch the first video of the build you’ll get a better understanding. We’ve crossed the gulf stream with her 6 times and ran into 6ft to 8ft waves during a squall and handled it just fine but personally I wouldn’t want to be out in anything bigger than 4 footers with this boat.

That looks terrifying! I'm in the UK and hopefully buying a partially completed Richard Woods Skoota. Was there an alternative choice you could have made, or did you have to just sit it out? In the UK, I've never known wind to be so strong as to take paint off of metal. Crazy!

Believe it or not my husband learned the majority of stuff for the build from KZbin and his own independent research. We also would need a bigger boat for all the solar panels to get the power Mike would want 😆. Plus people don’t think about all the overcast days. Thank you for your comment!

In my campervan, I installed a composting toilet and had the urine diverter outlet go into the grey tank. Since urine is sterile, the action of it mixing with waste shower water and sink water removed the smell even if it wasn't dumped for a few days or a week. Composting toilets are never 'composted' though. The action of this takes at least three to six months minimum. Great explanation of a sensitive subject. I would have thought a marine toilet and holding tank is the only way to go at sea. Any smells can surely be mitigated with the introduction of 'nice smellies' such as lavender or similar?

Appreciate your candid thoughts , many issues I did not think of!, In a sailing catamaran I sail on there are 2 heads in each stern, the waste always goes into the tank. No Y valve. The tank is above waterline. When traveling or at sea we leave the valve open and dump ‘continuously’, In Harbor we close valve. A simple setup. Uses salt water flush. But no smell (waste is rarely in tank for long! ) Cheers Warren
