So you know, This is a modern version of a series I did in Tekken 7 called "Stringing Them Along" which you can find here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmjXYZKQe6mhgtksi=i-KPKr48TGxfb9Lq I'm aiming to release a block punishment and a string defence video for a different character each week. I currently have a buffer of a few of them ready to go to help me keep to the schedule, but if I find myself getting far enough ahead, I might speed up the release.

@@Groudon_Jz You're welcome :) What you want to do here is block training. Practice segments of the combo repetitively until it becomes familiar to you, then gradually join the blocks together until you're performing the full combo. Thankfully you can now save states in practice mode to make this easier to do. Side note: This is a strategy used to help people with conditions such as dyspraxia to help them better order and perform tasks.

During the SS1 cancels Im having an extremely hard time mimicking your inputs in 7:38 for example. I dont know how youre getting the back upback and left input in between the 1. My input looks different. When I do my cancel its ss1, back then back and up, rinse and repeat. Is it because im canceling my backsway with only up? No idea how you get the up/left consistently to cancel. I just cant get my brain wrapped around it. When I try it I end up doing that weird side step chop that crumbles the opponent.
@AFriendlyTree
@AFriendlyTree 25 күн бұрын
A lot of it will come down to practice and getting a feel for the timing yourself. I think a key thing I was trying to show in the timestamped section was that I was generally doing SS+1~B~B+u, as in, I was holding the b from the backsway then pressing the up. The hard part for me is releasing the b and the u at the same time, otherwise you get the backflip. If you're getting the sidestep chop, that's ub+1 and suggests to me that you're pressing the attack button too early, or without first letting go of the directional buttons. Does this help at all?

@@AFriendlyTree Thank you so much I think what you just wrote in tandem with rewatching the videos are starting to click. Things I did after reading: I slowed it way way down, I should have listened to you when I believe in another video you mentioned that starting off slow is best while then building speed. I think I was gun-ho from the onset and the speed wasn't making me understand the inputs I was doing. So, 1) I slowed down the inputs 2) I applied what you said, about the up when in backsway and releasing on time. I started getting the backflips, I did backflips a few more times to understand why they were coming out as backflips, and then I started releasing them on the same time. The SS1 cancels are starting to come out with the exact inputs you used in the video. It still feels uncomfortable and I'm still going very slowly, hoping to check back either in here or discord once I can do it in full speed. I suspect it will take me much longer than 45 min of practice though lol Thanks again for the time you take in teaching all who are willing to learn. It's incredibly appreciated!

Loving it. Feels like a brand new game. Getting used to the jump button positions and not sure which one I'll use as the T16 has jump in WASD and hitbox style. So far I find Nina's sidestep 1 or jump 3 or 4 easier with WASD . Thanks for all your videos and advice, haven't played Tekken since Tekken 4 and now that I'm in my 40s I appreciate all the help I can get to have an edge 😂

You should make a separate video specifically on how to do Nina's iws1 combos on hitbox, and post it in every Tekken group. It's guaranteed to blow up, homie.
@shaolinprince777
@shaolinprince777 Ай бұрын
I didn't watch the video yet, but this is actually VERY useful. I was wondering about HOW to do Nina's iws1 combos on hitbox, because I haven't been able to do them. Nobody else released a guide on this. I can do them just fine on an arcade stick, but I can't do them on hitbox, which is a problem, because the hitbox makes things like the Korean backdash much easier. But, I feel like if I can't do Nina's iws1 combos on hitbox, then it's kinda pointless to play her on that. Nina is the hardest character to master in Tekken. She's the ONLY character who is actually HARDER to play on hitbox. Every other character becomes easier on hitbox.
@AFriendlyTree
@AFriendlyTree 25 күн бұрын
I feel like I'm in a similar situation really. There are aspects of using a hitbox which I find a lot easier, but I'm still much more comfortable with the Nina-specific execution when I play on stick. The exception being Hayashida step because that's much easier to do on hitbox. For now, this is going to be my main video guide for displaying my inputs. I could look into releasing some shorts demonstrating some specifics over the, but that'll come after my current project.

As someone who’s played a lot of pad and some stick (back in the end of arcade days mainly) I say if you want to get a stick and or leverless just do it. They are fun to play with at the least. My favorite part about leverless is that it’s just less strain and mental work to use. Once you get used to it of course. Also, I don’t even really use shortcuts and I still do well enough.

I don't think there are any limitations to becoming a good player with pad. Many top players in the world play pad and you'll generally find that there's a mix for any character as well. People play what they feel most comfortable, or what will help them enjoy the game the most generally. If you want to buy a new device because you think you'll enjoy it, go for it! If you're doing it because you think it'll make you a better player, I think you have the same potential if you stick to pad :)

So I got a question about that db2 into qcf431+2 ender, like how does it work?(I couldn't hear clearly what you said cauae the music was a bit loud) I see you do f into qcf but nina does a dash right after the db2 and gets a lot of distance I tried doing ff into qcf but couldn't land it and now I see you just need f into qcf can you explain it please?
@AFriendlyTree
@AFriendlyTree Ай бұрын
Sorry about the audio. I have the music set to duck when I'm talking and the keyframes are auto-generated. There may have been an issue with those keyframes. The db+2 into qcf+4,3,1+2 is still very tricky, but what I'm doing is using the directional input buffer to input f,qcf while Nina is in hitstun from the db+2. This is an input buffer change they made in Tekken 8 where you can perform a dash immediately out of recovery, and in this situation you're "storing" the f and qcf but only the x2 f motions register as something that can be performed instantly. The game performs what it understands, but stores the rest for when it can perform it once out of recovery. I hope my explanation isn't too confusing, but that's my understanding of it.
@rikuheart91

@AFriendlyTree
@AFriendlyTree Ай бұрын
Hey mate, didn't I link you videos on this very thing quite recently? Df+3,2~db+2 is the notation people have given for doing a df+3,2 into a db+2 for combos. The more accurate notation would be df+3,2~b~db+2 and what you're doing is cancelling Nina's df+3,2 into a backsway with a back input (this is new to Tekken 8), then once you're performing the backsway, instantly inputting db+2. As the cancel is a back input, the game will also perform the backsway if you press down+back. So most people input it as df+3,2~db+2
@rarrieta789
@rarrieta789 Ай бұрын
Just the video I was waiting for! Thanks again for doing these. One tip I heard to consistently get df3,2~db2 is to hold db and press 2 once you see Nina retract her arm from the df3,2. Also, that was a sick combo @9:06, I’m going to try that later lol
@AFriendlyTree
@AFriendlyTree Ай бұрын
Good tip! As long as she's in the beginning of her backsway, it will work. That combo formula is what I'd generally recommend right now. x2 power hits, x2 bufferflies, df+3,2~db+2, dash db+3+4

@AFriendlyTree Ай бұрын
The way I hold the pad is definitely not the only way and I'm sure the way you hold it is fine. Any controller you use will involve a lot of time investment to improve and they each have their own advantages, so I really need to suggest that you invest that time into whichever one you enjoy using the most! I hear people say that it takes a few months to get proficient on a new controller, but I feel like a year is a more realistic timeframe, at least to reach a level where you're comfortable enough to not be putting additional thought into eqch action
