Can I get a castration three speed shifter to go with my banana seat and wheelie bar?
@crackerbarrel6965Күн бұрын
Oh hell yeah! I split my jaw in half with one of those chopper bikes to this day I have limited movement when I went right over the handle bars due to the small front tire on those things. Miss those times.

My dad was FROZEN in the mindset of the 1940's. Strongly opposed to some of the things I was dying to have as a kid in the 60's: Long hair, Rock albums, and Stingray bikes. Oh well. Rest in peace, dad.

I had the highrise handlebars and the banana seat but I never even heard of the wheelie bar kit or I would have had one !!!

I didn't need a wheelie bar, on my banana seat bike with ape hanger handlebars, I could ride a wheelie as easy as riding the bike on two wheels. Now when we all switched over to BMX bikes with MX handlebars and solo saddles, my wheelie prowess disappeared. The geometry changed so radically I could never keep the center of balance under me.

No one in my neighborhood in the 70's had these. Then again, nobody had nice Schwinn bikes. Bike helmets did not exist and sunscreen was not a thing. We all joke about these things, about how we all survived but not all of us did. Head injuries are no joke and quite a few of us are going to Mohs surgeons because of all the basal cells we have. It was a great time but we take precautions for very good reasons.

Nobody had allergies, no one ever got sick. And when you did get sick you just sucked it up... I can't remember the last time I saw a kid riding a bike

Yep no helmets. As kids we knew better than to do our stunts on sidewalks or pavement. We did them in each others yard even when not having much of a yard to do them in. We would pick up speed from up the street and then hit the homemade jump that was set up in the yard. Landing on dirt was much better than solid concrete

I always like the story about Dennis Wilson and Jim Morrison cruising in Dennis's dune buggy...and then pulling over to give Charles Manson a lift a few blocks down Santa Monica. Talk about the pinnacle of surreal.

I slid my bike on some sand and conked my head. It hurt so I asked my Dad for an aspirin. Denied. Since it was self-inflicted he told me "No it is supposed to hurt - how will you learn if it doesn't ?"

Fuck I had completely forgotten about these. BTW I owned a company made specialty ammunition back in the 60's named "Blammo Ammo" and Wham-O tried to sue me for trademark infringement. They lost.
