Very popular with both our Cubs & Scouts! Extra calls: - 3 in a life boat - Huddle in groups of 3 (can be any number) - Captain on deck - Stop, stand still and salute (great while they are still running between points) - Boom coming over - All stop & duck down

From what I've read the original 1907 emblem was a fleur-de-lis, but the two five-point stars were added later to make it unique to Scouts, as a fleur-de-lis was considered too generic. Like a plain fleur-de-lis couldn't be copyrighted and/or trademarked.
@Scoutadelic5 ай бұрын
that's amazing, didn't know that...
@micromuc125 ай бұрын
The five pointed stars were used as the 10 points (of the two stars) represented the (then) 10 Scout Laws.

We have a variant of the song, at the line "Star of the evening", we use the next line "Shining on the cook house store", because it's in-keeping with the Damper for a bread oven. Also, since we are repeating the same lines we start elimmiating parts of the song until we are just doing the actions in silence, so it gets very surreal. I have been told that leading the song at our centenary camp was my most memorable moment in Scouts. I was completely in the moment.
@Scoutadelic6 ай бұрын
that sounds amazing
@Forquare6 ай бұрын
I really like that variant! Will see if my brain allows me to try that instead of the one that's currently ingrained! Now that you mention it I think I have also silenced the lines and just done the actions - at the end of the camp fire you really get a sense of calm with either way.

"Grandma, tell me a story." "Let me think of one." Aha! - I saw a bird, with a yellow bill, it landed on, my window cill, I coaxed it in, with a piece of meat, it landed on, my toilet seat, I poked it in, and pulled the chain, I never saw, that bird again! "That's a very interesting story, Grandma!"
