Thank you for showing. Interesting collections as always. First time that I hear about "underprints".

I loved the variety of the Australian map and kangaroo stamp, and what a nice story it coming from a junior stamp album. 🙂And it was nice to learn about the three different types of errors. Thanks!

I presume there are some instances where forgeries (particularly intended for postal use) are now more valuable than the stamp they emulated?
@StampAuctionsАй бұрын
Yes. In fact as most regular stamps are mass-produced by neccesity then early stamps forged to defraud are often much rarer and more valuable than the common genuine version!

That amazing 2d blue block is rather reminiscent of Mr Wise's supposed 'wig': "I can't see the join, Ern." 🤓

I know that mint stamps are invariably more valuable but they just leave me cold. Give me a collection of used pieces of history any day.

Sour grapes.

Most often mint are valued higher, are much scarcer and they look nicer. I've heard about 20% of collectors prefer to collect used - I'm fine with both, but prefer mint

If donating to auctions etc....Please be careful and take photgraphs before leaving them anywhere... You need photographoc proof.
@StampAuctionsАй бұрын
Agreed! We recommend using your phone and either film yourself turning pages, or take snaps of pages. You don't have to take a picture of everything if you want to keep a dealer / auctioneer honest - just let them know you've taken pictures! We hear very little in the UK about dodgy dealings, the main players are all honest.

These two collections shows me what a small padawan I am. Very nice collections, but far beyond my possibilities.

There are one or two used - e.g. British Guiana Continued page.
@mattys1467Ай бұрын
I'm intrigued. Wouldn't those fetch more money by being curated into individual lots?
@steveradell859Ай бұрын
Almost certainly, and probably at least 30% more, but that is more work and breaks the integrity of the collections

Thanks for this very useful post, Andrew, though it didn't exactly cheer me up as I now suspect nearly all of my 15 Transvaal eagle/shield stamps are fakes. I'm not sure about my £5 as I didn't really understand what you said about how to check the perfs (I'm sure that's me being dim). Oh well, they seemed too good to be true. All the best, Ray
