Right before Winston falls in the river of slime, egon calls him ernie.
@LextheRobot13 күн бұрын
@@kylec.8350 Like the urban myth claim of Mark Hamill saying Carrie instead of Leia, I've heard this claim many times but can't hear it clearly personally. I've also heard it said as Dan Aykroyd saying Ernie. I have to to conclude that it's the power of suggestion. People who've been told that's what they'll hear will hear it. But I've never watched the film with someone and had them go, "Wait, run that back, I think he said Ernie instead of Winston." Some years ago, I did a whole series of 'My Ghostbusters Pet Peeves' videos refuting popular Ghostbusters urban myths, you should check it out. Maybe I'll look at the Winston/Ernie claim for a future installment.

Well, I'm years late to this but FINALLY someone has the answer I've been looking for. Finally Reference of the Costumes worn in the start of the film! I wish it was that easy to find any of Egons outfit. By chance could you tell me if the Glover was in fact marked as "Green?" I've seen a few like it come up but I was never certain.
@LextheRobotАй бұрын
Well, I am red/green colorblind, but I'll say this. The same person who told me about the brand name Gloverall also specified green. I did jump the gun and buy a gray one first, and he corrected me. And the pattern on the lining matches the pattern seen in Aykroyd's costume in an on-set pic from the shooting of the "Get her!" scene, while the lining of the gray does not. So I'm reasonably confident that green is the way to go.

Harold Ramis: "I don't believe in sequals"....Ghostbusters 2?
@LextheRobot2 ай бұрын
@@JanLauritzen Yes, a comment that at first glance, seemingly didn't age well. I've addressed this one in the comments here before, but in a nutshell you can blame Caddyshack II. The studio came to him to do a sequel, he strongly tried to talk them out of it, they insisted that it would happen with or without him. So he assents, pitches it to Rodney Dangerfield, but when Rodney balked, Harold tried to say okay let's drop it, but the studio replaced Rodney with Jackie Mason over his protests, etc etc. Finally he tried to have his name removed from it altogether, the studio says no, that will hurt us in the trade papers, so he relents, and the picture comes out and is just awful. After this bad experience, everyone from Ghostbusters sits down, has a wonderful lunch together, and they were all excited to work together as a group again. Surprisingly, Harold decided to see what a proper sequel experience might be like.

Imagine recording Ghostbusters on VHS, in Houston, then the Channel 13 Sunday Night Movie. If it was on a Thursday, the 11PM Late Show.
@Aurochhunter3 ай бұрын
I agree with you about the possibility of someone misinterpreting the scene in question. It's common knowledgw that many of the lines in Ghostbusters were ad libbed; from the script we can see that Bill Murray did indeed ab lib his lines here, and the comment on the Internet Movie Database claims that 'the subsequent lines were ad libbed.' So unless this was somebody's idea of trolling, a simple misinterpretation of what actually happened when this scene was filmed seems like the most likely explanation as to where the idea of the bookshelf falling was unscripted came from.
@LextheRobot3 ай бұрын
@@Aurochhunter Which brings up another subject I've been meaning to cover. This was all structured ad libbing. They would rehearse the scenes and workshop them ahead of time, and Ivan would say "we need something here". It wasn't just chaos on the set with everyone saying whatever popped to mind as the cameras rolled. (Okay, maybe Murray did.) Rather, it was improvisation as a tool, used collaboratively to craft a scene as an ensemble, and they were some of the best at it.
@sonrouge3 ай бұрын
I can see why this was deleted. Would've been a he** of a plot hole after the heroes took a swim in the stuff.
@LextheRobot3 ай бұрын
Interesting point. Let's consider... They swam in a raw river of it, and it instantly made them aggressive towards each other. Even after they stripped off their outer layer of clothes and tracked down Venkman and Dana at Armand's, Ray still acted a little bit frenetic. But they also 'positively charged' the slime for their blowers, which made both Ray and Janosz feel pretty groovy after getting hosed. The slime covering the museum could be argued to be 'actively' under Vigo's control, so presumably its primary purpose was to keep people out while he transferred his soul into a living body. And we know the slime shell didn't actually kill or eat Hardemeyer, since he's visible on the dais at Liberty Island at the end of the film when they receive the key to the city from the Mayor. There is also the odd aberration of his shot in the credits where he seems to be outside the slime shell, reacting along with the New Year's Eve revelers and seeming to be in overall good spirits. So perhaps the original intent was for Hardemeyer to emerge from the slime shell at some point after the crowd outside had begun to sing Auld Lang Syne, when the negative slime shell was being weakened by the positive vibes of the New Yorkers. Thankful to be alive, and coated in psychomagnetheric slime that just received positive energy from a few thousand people, he's now had a huge change of heart and becomes a better person.

Didn't The Mayor fired jack?
@LextheRobot3 ай бұрын
Good question. In the film as we know it, there is indeed a scene where the Mayor fires Jack Hardemeyer much earlier than this point in the timeline. But that scene was part of a late reshoot that was designed to streamline the end of the movie. I believe other things they reshot were the exploration of the tunnel with the severed heads and the ghost train, the darkroom fire where Winston rescues Ray and Egon, and (just a hunch) all of Egon's dialogue when they're staring at the Ecto-1A's license plate. So this extended scene-- which follows the original script-- was ultimately *replaced* by the shorter scene in the Mayor's office. That scene also replaced the deleted plotline of Louis springing the busters from the mental hospital with the help of his cousin Sherman. In one quick scene, we have the Mayor providing both the resolution of Hardemeyer and the busters out of jail, so you can see how it was designed specifically to help pacing.

Holy shit, behind the scene footage of shots that didn't show up in the movie? I'm actually very pissed that there are many repeat gags that originally seemed like "this is a specific line that they need to work into the movie once as a plot point" that were obviously intended to be callbacks that they deleted despite the fact that the jokes would've actually gotten better by the 2nd & 3rd hit ("Titanic arrived", "Supportive nurturing things", "Sucked Down To The 10th Level Of Hell", Peter implying the Statue of Liberty is a sex worker, etc.)

One detail I forgot to mention was that the day it arrived, my buddy John was also having something delivered to my house that was too big for the mail slot at his apartment. He came to my work to pick up a package from the previous week that I had in the trunk of my car. While he was there, he got notification of a second package being delivered, and they sent him a photo of two medium packages on my front doorstep. One, according to my email, was a Hasbro Pulse action figure that had been on back order for me. I told him to feel free to snag his parcel on his way home. I got busy at work and only much later saw I had a voicemail from him saying my wife must've brought in the two small packages when she picked up Zak at work, as neither were on the porch anymore, but there *was* a large new box marked StarSpeeder. I checked the time stamp, he'd left that message three hours earlier, and I was still going to be at work until almost midnight. Late last year I had my first- or second-ever package go missing, a book that I'd gotten very cheap but still it was upsetting that the post office said it was marked 'delivered' and could not do anything else to help. Not wanting a Speeder-sized box to be sitting out there til the wee hours, I called home to have them make sure to bring it in. I must've spent a solid five minutes on tenterhooks as Debbie and Zak languidly got around to checking, bringing in, and confirming that a box marked StarSpeeder was now inside. I got home after 12, and was amazed how big the box was. So even up to the last second, I was worried the rug might get pulled out from under me.
