I want to move my RedSea Reefer 525 literally like 10-12ft to another position but am deathly afraid to cause any issues with the seams that RS is notoriously known for. Not to mention re aquascaping, but I could use a reaquascaping on the left side of the tank anyway lol.

nice vid. I am curious though, how can you keep wrasse in those tanks without a cover? are they not jumping out?
@GalleryAquaticaTV6 күн бұрын
Fish don’t typically jump if they aren’t stressed or alarmed. Often jumping occurs from territorialism and we are very particular about the combination of species we choose for each tank section. It’s also very important to us to provide lots of rock caves, sand etc in our fish systems to create what the fish naturally need to feel secure.

I recently purchased a juvenile for my 165 gallon tank. There was major aggression from my one spot foxface but that subsided after about a week and the new rabbitfish is doing great and eating lots of prepared seaweed. It was labelled as a 3 blotch rabbitfish in the store but it looks exactly like a blue spot since there are no blotches and it only has the blue spots with yellow body. Do you know if the 3 blotch rabbitfish develops its "blotches" as it gets older or do simply have a blue spot? Either way, it's a great fish.

How do I go about setting up a self-sustaining, no-input, freshwater system?

Freshwater phyto?
@seanrafferty675212 күн бұрын
@@GalleryAquaticaTV Yes. Doesn't algae grow in fresh water? I want a miniature ecosystem in my tanks.
@GalleryAquaticaTV12 күн бұрын
Phytoplankton makes the water green and requires nutrient input. I’d stick to plants to create a self sustaining freshwater ecosystem. Cam
@seanrafferty675212 күн бұрын
@@GalleryAquaticaTV Do you mean that there are two styles of aquarium that are incompatible? I hear you on that, but who else do I need to create a closed loop? I want to create a system that requires as few continuous inputs as possible. Plants require nutrients as well and I have the stratum aqua-soil. The plants being macroscopic means that to support larger animals I must be missing a few key 'actors' in a cyclical system. I have rotifers and other microfauna, but I'm wondering if there's anything smaller, I can grow that they'll feed on. I just thought an autotroph like Chlorella vulgaris would work. Thank you for your time.
@GalleryAquaticaTV12 күн бұрын
@seanrafferty6752 I think you’ll find phytoplankton requires just as much nutrient input at macroscopic plants, but I think I have a better idea of what you’re looking to achieve. It will be a challenge, but certainly an intriguing project. Cam

That’s a $10 -$15k system that was undone by the lack of a $500 quarantine tank setup. I’m guilty myself of not having a quarantine tank and regretted it fully.

Do you rinse new tanks (Red Sea/Cade/Waterbox)before filling them with saltwater for the first time? To remove any residues from the factory or not worth worrying about?

Not worth worrying about. I’ve never had a problem, however it another reason to start slowly with livestock additions. Cam

Do the Red Sea tanks have a reputation for leaking? I'm helping a friend deal with his tank which had a really big leak about half way down the tank. Let over 200L spill all over the floor. I just wondered it it is a common occurance?
@Cal-yi9sk14 күн бұрын
I had a Red Sea reefer XL 300 which the front seam gave out in the middle of the night. Tank wasn’t even 2 years old. I think because the front panel is not supported by the stand. Never buying their tanks again.

Hi Cam, just curious, i want to start using a sump and i'm looking at this particular system as we speak, but the movable baffles, do you find that the flow goes under it because there not sealed or it does flow over as normal.....

The bulk of the water goes over. You could always silicone them in place, but I think enough water flows over that it’s not necessary. Cam

Hey Josh, Ive been bugging Ania with some questions for you and she suggested I add them here. What salinity do you use for your phyto culture (and do you use different salinity for different species?) Also back to adding the nitrate, if I do decide to start adding it, how much do you normally add to the 5ltrs of medium when you make it up? And a question for both you and Cam, is there a follow up video with tips and tricks for raising copepods? I have a few more questions there as well, especially when it comes time to split the culture and using mesh to seperate babies from adults etc, im more than a little confused there. Cheers, Melinda

I have had my pair of Black Ice Clowns since they were the size of a child’s finger nail, very young, they paired and grew to their maximum sizes. They don’t host any of the mixed corals in the 300 litre tank, but they have their ‘cave’, when I aquascaped the tank I created two sleep areas either side by raising a flat piece of rock 40>50mm above the substrate. Here they probably breed, as the male remains under the rock and the female patrols outside. But doesn’t matter when, I have introduced a Gobi at three different times and she’s chased and harassed them to death. She doesn’t do this to any other fish in the tank, they explore around that cave without issue, but introducing any new fish and it’s the same. The only successful new addition has been a Goat fish, she still chases but it doesn’t seem to care, it swims away only to return minutes later. Can you suggest anything to stop this? I have tried mirroring, introducing in a breeder box, at night, at feeding time, without success. I’ve even been driven to trying to capture them to move on, without success, they too smart, the pair are 5+ years old.
@GalleryAquaticaTV12 күн бұрын
It’s difficult. Chances are they won’t change their behaviour. Their aggression would be lessened if they were in a bigger tank, but other than move them your only option is to keep trying different fish. Cam
