Kind of depends on the quality and condition, a good idea would be to approach the seller... the lower quality ones can get damaged more easily... but of course everything can be destroyed :) Sorry I can't help more.

Hi. I see this is a very old video. I do own a hand operated peening machine, similar to this one, but the lever operates in opposite motion, Its also mounted on a seat and has a metal rod in which you lay the blade as you run it through the jaws. It works well and Its the one I use the most. It is made here in the north of spain and its commercially sold, around 100 and something euros. I think its based on an old stubai model

Ale pięknie błyszczy ta kosa. Nieźle wypolerowana i zadbana. Pozdrawiam z Polski. Jacek.

Thanks, wondered if the schröckenfux sicles could be peened since they feel so sturdy compared to the scythe blades and dont want to damage my polished hammer and anvil setup. You video makes me to give it a try =)
@ndudman8 Жыл бұрын
:) no problem, you definitely shouldn't damage your nice hammer and anvil, however I think because the sickles curve inwards it is generally quite difficult to get the metal to thin out from peening, but it is possible. Good luck.
@odn7769 Жыл бұрын
@@ndudman8 I just done. It took quiet a lot of lines. And the middle where the curve is the biggest its pretty annoying :D Also the last two inches of the tip I cant really align on the anvil. Anyways it went pretty okayish - but far away from how exciting and fun it is on the scythe blade :D
@ndudman8 Жыл бұрын
@@odn7769 :) I found it easier/safer to wear gloves, it wasn't something I enjoyed compared to blades, so don't peen any sickles we sell. Also I needed to turn 45 degress anti clockwise the anvil so the sickle was at a safer angle when I was peening the tip I think.

Many thanks for the video, very helpful. One question. Because of the delay in the sound on the video it is difficult to see weather your whetstone motion is rubbing towards the sharp edge or running off the sharp edge. Does that make sense?

Yes, we didn't have so much grass back in those days, so made hay from everything, even though it was a bit long. As I remember that year it just grew very long, it was quite early in season early June I think...

Thank you for making such a great video, and stressing that it's a matter of patience and learning and good sense. "Perfect practice makes perfect." I find that these days western culture is falling into a ridiculous certification and training hole, where people require or demand a million specialized courses even for traditional basic skills, and are then considered 'experts', rather than actually sitting down and practicing said skills/crafts. Funnily enough, if we never try doing a skill, we'll never learn. Disclaimer: Certification definitely has its place, and is often crucial for safety as well as for maintaining standards of work - but just today my mother literally got angry at me for suggesting that I wanted to start learning how to mow with a scythe, abstractly exclaiming that I could break SO much and do SO much wrong and that I couldn't POSSIBLY imagine that before taking a two day long official course.

I'm taking in all your old videos now just to gather information from your comments. You are full of valuable information. What is the weight of the hammer you use now? That looks like a hefty hammer in this video. Thanks again and have a great day.
@ndudman82 жыл бұрын
Hammer is 800g's, could be a bit heavier, but most important is that its harder in RC than the blade. hammer=50-55 i think, FUX blade was 38 I think. Glad the info/videos are still useful after all this time. :)

:) its all carmed down now, and the Major and Daughter in the video have their own serious health problems so more to worry about, and I really feel for them. However its all IMHO connected with subsidies, easy money for work, and protecting their positions. Of course the police ignored this another attack even more obvious against me, with video evidence. But the world is beatiful, and things have a way of working themselfs out even when courts/police etc seem not to take action and protect people.

7:00 For some reason, my memory did not record that upon watching, and I had to figure this out later by myself. I am so glad that my "discovery"😁is confirmed by a specialist ! I can testify that it makes a huuuuge difference, since a blade kept steady and centered (on the anvil) allows a greater precision, a quicker pace and better results, thus giving more satisfaction. One more thing : I am mainly working on second hand blades that have been somewhat abused, and that I want to bring back to "life". For a long time, the hammer blows would not leave that typical shiny mark, even after I began to use the sanding block, and I had no clue why. To my satisfaction, it finally set in, and my explanation is that the surface has to be "one blow away" from being totally flat on that spot : as long as the little grooves made by whatever material (rocks etc...) are too deep, the hammer blows won't appear clearly.
@ndudman82 жыл бұрын
Easy to do, and often repeated by everyone :) myself included, not an instruction follow, or reader with furniture etc myself. Yes it makes a huuuuuuge difference... thank you for calling me a specialist... in what I've not discovered yet... but a compliment is always good to hear :)

Is this peened on the bottom face of the blade or the top? Is it the same for the jig w the 2 caps? Cheers
@ndudman82 жыл бұрын
This method of peening (free hand with a pointed anvil and flat hammer) we have the bladed turned upside when we peen and hit the bottom of the blade. This is the opposite to the jig you mention. Hope that clarifies things :)

@@robertlonergan49 We personally don't sell the FUX version, but get what I think is better quality Slovakian one, however I wouldn't recomend those jigs to anyone who's serious about mowing with ease and has a bit more time and commitment. Using the sanding block spondge thing and keeping hammer, blade, and anvil loverly and clean throughout the peening its really possible to easily see the shape and position of each hammer blow and then its much easier to improve your precision and get better at doing a good job. So really free hand all the way...
