Hi, thank you so much for the detailed, informative video really helpful information. I have a 1960 CJ5 and in pretty good shape and I would like to do exactly what you’re doing to improve and make it safe and a reliable jeep. Is there a link on where to purchase and the part description ? Thanks

Hi Jason, Great vid thanks very much. I still have the original plates from CJ2A, will those replacement sweeps fit in the old plates? The new style works great, no leaks. But I really like and prefer the old school look. Thanks, Dan

Hi Daniel, There were a few different style plates back in the day so it would be hard to say with certainty. Thank you for watching!

Nice video. I have 'inherited' what I believe to be a CJ3B which has what seems to be the original oil-bath type filter which closely resembles the one in this video. How does one maintain this sort of filter - does the element need to be periodically removed and cleaned??
@KaiserWillysJeepАй бұрын
Congratulations on the new rig! General maintenance on these is pretty easy… just dump the oil. Wipe out the pan and fill it back up with clean oil. Occasionally you can clean the mesh will parts cleaning solvent gasoline or diesel fuel. Just be careful and be sure to properly dispose of all the waste liquids.

You don’t need anything special for this job. Any old grease will do. There are far too many people who shy away from diy projects because the don’t have the “right stuff”

Hi Jason. How are you doing? My name is Edman and I would like to ask you about this steering wheel installation on a Universal Steering Column. How it would be possible? Would I have to buy a 3 holes adapter and drill the 3 holes on this steering wheel? I have already the Column, but I like this steering wheel shape. Thank you Mate!

This is a good video for the most part. My problem is at 2 min 36 sec he's putting the bearing on with the snap ring towards the threaded end of the shaft. For over a min , it's like this. At 3 min 49 sec it has been turned around. I had to get a puller and remove the bearing. At least least let everyone of the mistake.
@KaiserWillysJeep3 ай бұрын
You didn’t make a mistake. There is no mistake in the video either. The orientation of the bearing does not matter. Some bearings have snap ring grooves, some do not. Not snap ring is used. You do not have to pull it and flip it. We mention this in the video description after the first comment on this topic. Thanks. 👍

these are also good as your torque being applied is as close to the threads as possible...if you use the double nut method you are wasting energy twisting the stud before the torque acts on the threads making you have to apply more torque which then exceeds the threads ability to withstand it and it breaks off 1/4 inch inside the block....which then necessitates a whole new set of tools and skills.

Any tips on getting a reliable oil filter cover gasket placement and tightening? I have had a number of incidents where it does not appear to leak initially but an hour or more later it will leak, sometimes a lot. I now keep a few quarts in the passenger seat storage but I would prefer it be reliable, and not a mess to clean up. (1959 CJ3b, f-head)

dont use modern oil for christ sake 🙅♂it will ruin all your oil seals. USE SAE 30 mineral oil as the vehicle was intended to use since 1942
@michelle-lz8tg4 ай бұрын
modern SAE 30 might not have enough zinc in it for the flat tappet cam and lifters....Rotella has it.

There used to be what Dad called a "Jeep Graveyard" in Douglasville, Georgia, or some other place just off of I-20 between Atlanta and the Alabama/Georgia State Line. They still had military replacement engines in military metal shipping & storage containers. And Jeeps everywhere. They had a CJ-2A that I would have bought if I had any money back then (early-to-mid-'80s) because it had the PTO attachments for both snow plowing and post(?) hole digging (drilling). I bought some replacement leaf springs and, if I remember correctly, some of the brackets that rivet to the frame for attaching the leaf springs for my CJ-2A (early model). I still have it, but at the moment it is a basket case! :(

Seth, I just bought a complete front disc kit from Kaiser and a dual master cylinder. do i still need proportion valve since the rear is a drum brake. i noticed you used a single master cylinder reservoir, anyway, you have a great tutor video and well presented. thank you, Bob
@redeyecafegarage74843 ай бұрын
Hi Bob, I have done a lot of testing on this topic. While companies generally recommend a rear proportioning valve I have not found them to be critical. A residual valve for the rear would be a good idea since you still have drum brakes. I do have a video showing the dual master install on the Jeep shown in this video. Hope this helps. 👍
