We’ve since upgraded to a 2022 RAM 5500 with an aluminum flatbed since we were far too over payload on the 3500. We haven’t done a video on it yet because we were waiting to finish the upgrades but should have it out soon.

All that storage, but no room for toys? Where are the boats, fly rods, skis, scuba gear and more? A 20-foot plus utility trailer would be perfect!

It’s possibly on our list. We currently flat tow our lifted Jeep and are contemplating getting a trailer to tow it AND have room for toys. Keeping miles off the expensive 37” tires would be nice!

We started with a dually 3500 but quickly realized it was not enough to handle the payload. We’ve since upgraded to a 5500 and are much safer and within payload. Fully loaded and with a full fresh tank, we were 7400 pounds. Our ram was only rated for 5750. Our new 5500 is rated for 11,000 pounds. You would be safe right off the lot with a 1 ton dually but as soon as you start adding anything, you’ll most likely be overweight.

The only thing i do not like about the bathroom, is the comode. I would rather have a red rv toilet. And another thing, all the videos i have seen, people doing the same thing yall are doing, "BoonDocking" what ext is so important wirh laptops and desk, what y'alls occupation?. Yall say you live full tome in your camper
@WheelinwiththeWendes
@WheelinwiththeWendes 14 күн бұрын
I agree about the toilet, however, it’s something that we need as fulltime boondockers and alleviates the need for a black tank, thus extending the amount of time we can stay off grid. Yes, we both work full-time remotely. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t need the space or desk area. Once we retire, we will most likely go even smaller with a truck camper that has no slides.

Very nice. Good balance of mods. What was the thing above the door on the inside? Have you thought about repurposing the black tank or the space it takes up?
@WheelinwiththeWendes
@WheelinwiththeWendes 2 ай бұрын
Thanks! The black tank is shared by both the toilet and vanity, both in the same slide. Since the vanity is still connected to it, we decided to leave it as is. We had thought about removing the tank and just using a bucket under the sink but don’t want to make it too custom, for resale purposes. As it is, it’s easy to go back to a conventional toilet since we just capped off the water line and used a test plug in the toilet drain. Above the door was a rolling blind/valence that we removed when we installed the built in blind for the door window. Thanks for watching!

What is the water softener system you have in the back of your pickup
@WheelinwiththeWendes
@WheelinwiththeWendes 5 ай бұрын
It’s a 16,000 grain model On-the-Go water softener. For a rig this size, you could probably get away with the smaller 8,000 grain unit but we go through a lot of water since we’re fulltime. It’s definitely a gamechanger out west where the water is so hard.

I would be very careful about setting up a host camper off of the truck. The couple beside us down here in key west had there 11 6 on the Jack's about 10 inches off the ground and 2 of the happy Jack's pulled out of the camper and it collapsed while sitting off the truck. They had the stable campers braces deployed and the Jack's still pulled out of the camper. When it rolled over it missed our northern lite by maybe 2 inches. We lucked out. The 2024 host they had us a total loss.

Thanks for the info, we agree. We RARELY take ours off, only if the truck needs service. Even then, I hate it being on the jacks. The only way I can see it being safely stored off the truck is if the base itself is being supported.

Are your panels 200 watt Hightec? Is the 3" part of the angle on the roof? Any reason that you did not put the rivit nut in the panel frame? Stronger with the angle or just higher? Did you need to drill the holes in the panel corners for the angle brackets? Love your idea. I'm in the process of putting (6) Hightec215 watt panels on my 5th wheel. I already have the full Vitron Setup except for the charge controller, a 150/100 unit. I've been dealing with Continuous Resources for about a year now, good people.
