I met several people from Brazil who now live in Madeira. One of the excellent bus drivers in my videos is from Venezuela.

I stayed in Funchal five times between December 2022 and March 2023. I had not visited Madeira before that. I travel a lot and consider Funchal the best place I have ever visited. have a great time.

Hi. I am 75 years of age, travel solo almost constantly, and consider Madeira to be probably the safest place I have ever visited - and the best. I think that the bus only accepts cash. Have a great time - you won't regret visiting Madeira. @@speedy6997

Thank you for watching and your lovely comment. I had not been to Madeira until last December then returned five times between then and March to ride the buses. The drivers are incredible. This particular driver, I wish I had asked his name, was special. The video actually does not really convey exactly how challenging the route is.

Thank you Antoni. Do you live on the island? I'm an old guy and spend my retirement travelling cheaply around Europe. I had never been to Madeira until December 2022 but have now visited five times - I particularly love Funchal and have become a fan of Horários do Funchal in general and these buses in particular.

Hi@@leslaw210 . Watched all your videos this morning. My family are originally from Madeira and we emigrated to North Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 in 1969. My family in Madeira are from that high region that the bus took you to. Myself and my siblings every year spent our school summer holidays in Madeira and now I visit a couple of times per year with my wife. It’s a truly beautiful island and the people are kind and welcoming. Those steep roads off the main roads have only been accessible some 30+ years, they’ve been lengthened, widened and tarmacked. As a kid I remember the only vehicles that made it up there were old Willy’s Jeeps from the electricity and phone company. Loving your videos especially this one. Happy that you enjoy Madeira and your seeing parts of the islands that 99% of tourists don’t bother to see. Happy holidays mate.

You would need the Interurban not the Urban pass. The single fare is less than €4 each way but I buy the Interurban and also use it in town. Check the timetable carefully as the 81 takes different routes at different times. I take the 09.00 or 10.00 from Funchal to Eira do Serrado for the views then a later 81 to either Curral das Freires or stay on for the lovely drive through the valley

Hi Samuel. There are four bus companies on Madeira, which do not operate in a way particularly helpful to travelers as they do not cooperate with one another. Fortunately, the best of them, in my opinion is Horarios do Funchal and it is they who operate the bus No. 81 to Curral das Freiras which sometimes also stops at Eira do Serrado with the bus indicated by the letter 'B' on the timetable. Careful though, the 09.00 service only stops at the viewpoint by request. Horarios website and mobile App are excellent. It is an 'Interurban' service so passes such as the Day Pass are more expensive than 'urban' passes but the single fare is very cheap. If you were to travel in the morning and want to return to Funchal, also in t he morning, you would have to travel on to Curral das Freiras as the return buses only stop at Eira do Serrado for Funchal, in the afternoon. Hi mate, thank you. As you know I am an admirer of your driving in Rijeka - and your videos. When I was on Jersey, Channel Islands, about ten years ago, most of the bus drivers were from Madeira, earning high salaries. The roads there are quite narrow and twisty but nothing compared to Madeira. All of the bus drivers I travelled with on Madeira were, like you, highly skilled and very pleasant. Mirrors would spoil the natural, rugged beauty of the place.
