I went Gojira Spiritbox -- not a big fan of Jaded. Feel too "safe" musically Judas Priest Knocked Loose Metalica Wasn't there better releases in 24? Which songs got snubbed? BTW, Poppy joined Courtney and Spiritbox onstage for a song. Same show as Tatiana?

Gojira is my favorite band. Never kept up with the Grammys to know if they won one before, but they been deserved one.

Mercy Falls! Yessss. I do wish there was a version without the corny voiceover narrations, but besides that it's a 9-9.5 to me. Seventh Wonder's bassist is incredibly underrated, imo. I'm very sad Tommy has decided to leave but I can understand the decision. I'll have to check the others out! Edit: removed my top ten cause it wasn't specifically power prog which the video is of course aimed at (I got excited at the title)... the grammys suck ass, have been for lots of years now, but out of all the nominees, I legit thought the knocked loose poppy crossover, especially the talkshow happening, was GREAT!

Their last two albums are their worst work. They're missing the same emotion and power as the first two albums. I was so hyped as a kid for hypnotize and mezmerize before they were released, and I was hugely let down with how poppy everything sounded.

Isn't it just great that OPETH wasn't nominated . . . . 🤨 (oops; "September 16, 2023 to August 30, 2024" is the Grammy nomination time frame. "Last Will and Testament" was released 22 November 2024). Instead of the goofy "Best Metal _Performance"_ . . . why not "BEST Metal Album"??? One of the few categories that create FULL Albums of no filler around "Hit Singles" (like Progressive Rock, Jazz/Fusion). But its exactly what your Wife said at 20:52, The Grammy's are still bending the knee to Metallica for blowing it with Jethro Tull (and I'm a HUGE Tull fan!) everytime they release an album. But also Metallica deserved a Best Metal Album (if Grammy was smart enough to do that, but they're not), not just for the track "One", but the entire Album. People should checkout all the Metal albums that were released in 1988 (Wiki page) . . . NONE were going to get noticed by the Grammy's. - Its all about what's popular, congratulating each other for mediocrity, and virtue signaling . . . anything but MUSIC (again, albums worth of creativity made for each track). I'm not a huge fan, but its amazing that _someone_ was keen on putting "Sleep Token" on the list. Edit: BTW - The New Guitarist of Priest "Richie Faulkner" is only 45, veteran "Glenn Tipton" (77) has Parkinson's disease :(. So he doesn't do the more demanding parts. Producer of the album "Andy Sneap" (55) who has made a name for himself as a Mixing Engineer/Producer, also plays extra guitar parts and is the replacement guitarist for Glenn on-stage. Folks need to hear his unusual Thrash band "Sabbat" (UK), and their 3 albums. He is an OUTSTANDING guitarist and composer.

When I was 14, SOAD was ny gateway band to metal, as for many of people here (I'd guess). It's nice to see that they do still work their charms on "normies" (though I think Evelyn has made enough mileage to step out of that title 😊)

Would be really interesting to see what she thinks of something melodic and atmospheric, like Emperor's "With Strength I Burn" or "Acclamation of Bonds", some of Dimmu Borgir's older stuff, Satyricon's older stuff. I think that Spiritbox song is actually really catchy, chorus included. Love a good screaming chorus as opposed to the clean stuff. I tend to like Spiribox best at either their most vibey or heavy.

That's what I was saying for years. He may be not a great technical drummer but his drum parts are the reason why Metallica is Metallica. How many people still regularly listen to 80s early 90s? Do you listen to more Metallica from that era or Megadeth? Personally, I always listen to MoP and AJFA. Sometimes Rust in Piece and Countdown to Extinction. But Metallica songs in 80s are ageless and Lars is main reason for that. His drumming composition takes those songs to another level. It's like Mike Portnoy vs Mike Mangini in Dream Theater. Mangini is more technical, almost a perfect drummer. He is like machine. But Portnoy's compositions add a different value to Dream Theater. His musicality is much better. I would prefer always Portnoy. Yeah, maybe he cannot exactly play Mangini's part exactly as they are. But that is not the objective in music. I airdrum with Portnoy songs because his drumming is much musical. Like Lars. Lars is a genius drummer although he is a great drum player.

Interesting note, Jaded was nominated for a Grammy last year.
