The only one of these I read was powerless which I 100% agree is a guilty pleasure book. The best fantasy ever? Absolutely not. But is it really fun? Totally! And sometimes you just need a fun fantasy that’s all you favorites combined😆

That is a really great idea, though, to leave the images up the whole time I am talking about said book and I already started doing it in my most recent video - thank you!!!🥰

Fun vlog. I enjoyed seeing a bit of the city. :) Glad to hear that you've enjoyed Fourth Wing. It's not a book I gravitate to, but I appreciate everyone's enjoyment of it. Mmm. I love Spaetzle. It's been a long time since I've made it. The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi was my second favorite book of last year. It was so good! Super frustrating with Spotify. I've never gotten a subscription with them just because of those issues.

I love that you know about Spätzle and enjoy it too, haha 😍 I actually started reading that book because of your comment a while ago on another one of my videos! ☺You said you loved it so much and it was already on my TBR _and_ it was available on Spotify so I thought, why not?! I am happy it was on Spotify so I could listen to some of it, but super annoyed with Spotify in general, yeah. Toooons of issues.

Fun video! I like the ranking system that you discussed. RF Kuang is such a fantastic author. She does so many different genres and does them well. Babel is dark academia, but it reverses most of the common tropes. I'm not a romance reader at all, so I don't run into much smut...but on the occasion that I do, I don't mind if it's relevant to the plot. If it's just there for the shock value, then I'm not a fan. For thrillers, honestly, I can't stand Alex Michaelides. I think his books get progressively worse with The Silent Patient being his best. Riley Sager is so overrated imo. And Verity...I almost DNF'd, but kept reading just to see if there was anything redeeming in it. As you can probably tell, I'm really picky about thrillers...and it seems like theyre either super predictable or the author gives you such insane plot twists that it's like it might as well be aliens. Good hearing your wrap up on all of these books. You do a good job of reviewing.
@RaesReadsАй бұрын
I am super excited to read more from RF Kuang this year. I have been waiting months to get Babel at my library. Just a few more weeks now! Haha I agree - if any smut is actually relevant and not too "gory" then I am totally fine with it. I feel like a lot of authors nowadays go into *extreme* detail and that is where I personally draw the line 😅 It's nice to hear that someone else was not the biggest fan of Michaelides. I just did not enjoy that book at all. I was shocked it (and the author) seem to be sooo beloved. The same with Riley Sager. I found The Only One Left much better than The Silent Patient and Michaelides' writing, but neither were for me. Nor was Verity. I am the *same* way about thrillers and agree 100% with the predictable vs. might as well be aliens comment 🤣🤣 Thank you 💜

Hey Rae! Welcome to booktube! I'm happy to see you here! Yay for multi-lingual readers. I am fluent in English/Spanish and learning/conversational in French/Portuguese. LMK if you ever want to talk books in Spanish! I hear you say that you enjoy Pirate books. If you haven't already read it, The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty was my second favorite book of 2023 and is a pirate story! So good. I really enjoy T Kingfisher for horror, but I haven't had as much luck with her fantasy. Maybe I've read the wrong ones. I've subscribed and look forward to seeing more from you soon!

Hi Kaitlin! Thank you for the warm welcome 🥰 That is so awesome to meet another multilingual reader!! I would love to talk books in Spanish one day, but for that I should probably finish some books in Spanish 😂 I have a bit of a problem with starting books in Spanish and then jumping around a LOT, haha. I do this with all my languages, but at least I tend to finish them _some_ time with English and German, hahaha. Thank you so much for the book suggestion! This has been on my Goodreads TBR for *ages* - maybe I will try to fit it in this month! I have actually never read a horror novel by T Kingfisher yet. I love her other books, but she definitely does have a specific style that is quite hit or miss with people, I have found. I've also subbed to you and am excited to see more from you too! 😄

Hi Rae! So happy I found your channel, love that you’re also a multi language reader 🥰 (I read in English, Spanish and trying to learn Japanese and German so dabbling in some children literature in both of those). I just needed to express how crazy of a coincidence I find it that I stumbled upon your channel as I am planning to start my own and you mentioned you came to Monteverde for your honeymoon and are using the Monteverde Brewing Company sticker as a bookmark, that brewery is besides my moms house in Monteverde and I go to there so often when I visit home!! I hope you had an amazing honeymoon when you came and so excited to continue following your channel! I can tell we have very similar taste in books 😊 Also currently reading 5 books so you beat me haha

Im excited to see what you will talk about once you start it 🥰 (I also took a peek at your IG and I LOVE that Studio Ghibli tattoo sketch - Princess Mononoke is one of my all time favorite movies!). It is sooo crazy that this brewery is right beside your mom's place! We loved it and we *loved* our honeymoon there. It was 30 days in Costa Rica from coast to coast and is perhaps our #1 favorite trip to date!! 😂 5 books is still quite a lot! Once you are fluent in Japanese and German I am sure you will join me in often breaching the double digits, haha.
