How are Tesla cars seeing the world compared to the test cars that have all the spinning laser/radar sensors all over the car?

Because FSD does not know what is down the road or which exit is best, I wonder if it will ever be able to be autonimous. In other words, it is not learning about my routes as I am driving. Am I missing something?

Thanks for doing the video, it's very good. I'm not sure if it's noticeably better than the version I used in April on the Loaner S Tesla gave me, but I would expect the closer to "perfect", the longer it will take to hammer down the "Edge Cases". I can't help but notice that if you don't have a car, you are literally stuck being a hermit in Sarasota!

Every one of these has been recalled and is being destroyed. They are piled up in a junkyard in Arizona. The reason stated is a sudden loss of power but that is apparently just an excuse. The company has been sold.

I think it's important that the seats are adjustable, he keeps saying there's a problem, then he says "but it's okay". Small things like that will get to you after awhile, of course for a test drive, it's probably fine, but for everyday driving, you need a good seat with good back support that also goes all the way back, so you are not stuck constantly in the upright position..

Is it more relaxing to have to watch to intervene or to just drive?
@joseangelhr
@joseangelhr Ай бұрын
If you think driving is a relaxing thing, then you are not paying enough attention when you are driving. Driving is a constant process of both operating a vehicle in a manera that obeys the law and, at the same time, having a constant awareness of all the surroundings, traffic behavior, pedestrian behavior, weather behavior, road conditions, etc... When you add all the variables, FSD or not, it is never a "relaxing" scenario. The difference between the two constant stress inducing scenarios, is that FSD removes a little of the vehicle operation factor, adds surroundings awareness with its 7-8 cameras, but adds a variable of uncertainty as to not knowing 100% what will FSD do in certain niche scenarios. In my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons when using FSD.

It seems like an optical illusion, but the EUV looks porky. Truth is the EUV has noticeably slower acceleration and more than 10 miles less range then the EV. Here’s the shocker. The EV actually has more cargo space than the EUV .The width of the vehicles is the same the seats and infotainment and the consul are all the same. Here’s what the EUV has over the EV rear view camera mirror, sunroof option , super cruise after three years turns into a lifetime subscription if you want to keep it. The EV yields more miles per 30 minutes of charged as well. I think the smart money is on the EV. I have driven both.

Not a whiner... but Tesla has submitted "0" miles driven by FSD for governmental review. Waymo has done millions of miles reported to CA and to the Feds. So if it was made available with all miles tracked so far, the Dept of Transportation would take how long to review? Just saying Tesla has not started the process to get approval as of yet.

I wonder if the School Zone issue maybe, at least in California, In California, the speed limit in a School Zone applies when driving within 500 to 1,000 feet of a school while children are outside or crossing the street, unless otherwise posted. If the school grounds have no fence and children are outside, drivers should never exceed 25 mph. This is a bit complicated logic. Will the car know if the school is fenced? Maybe it is not using the lower speed as no students are on the sidewalk by the road.

Appreciate the effort but I don't understand why you think things like these are fundamentally limiting. You say you don't understand why it isn't solved at this point. We all know the system isn't perfect yet, the point is that it's going to improve upon this newly released architecture. All of the things you list are solvable by a GPT chatbot on your phone: take a pic of a school zone and ask it what speed it should go. take a pic of the no-entry situation and ask it what it should do. The chatbot will give the correct answer TODAY. Yes it's true this hasn't been implemented yet, but it is obvious that it will be... just needs more compute. So yeah I don't really get your point tbh.

Been avoiding accidents for over a decade of driving and I virtually never make eye contact with other drivers haha The general disbelief people have that a bot could drive perfectly without actual human intelligence should be assuaged by how easily modern chatbots can fool us. It seems to me that in order for them to function the way they do, they have to actually start grasping an understanding of the universe in a broad sense through language. That’s real intelligence, or at least a baby version of it. The same should be true for physical navigation, and it just needs the time and compute power to develop.

This system won't even ever be safe to sit behind the wheel and supervise. Why? Because you cannot maintain vigilance supervising a system that rarely faults. That will lead to deaths. Recovering from an error that the CAR doesn't know is an error, would require you to have full awareness of what is happening, and you won't have that because you cannot maintain vigilance. This was proven long ago through experimentation. It's also why the first AV traffic death happened. But you're in a bubble hearing a tech bro promising you he knows how to do this.

Don't get offended if someone reinforced a point you barely made. If you truly understand this premise, you'll realize that supervised FSD is a super dangerous product to operate. You'll commit to not continue to experiment with crapoy unnecessary tech in traffic with other people who never agreed to be part of Tesla's beta test. If you kill me with your Tesla, Elon will tell you it was your fault. So why is it taking until now for you to listen to the NASA study you reference?

Great analysis! The problems you refer, you think Waymo doesnt have them where they operate nowadays? If Tesla can match at least Waymo capacitys on the area they operate, I have no doubt the unit costs of Tesla are massively lower the Waymo costs. It seems that Tesla FSD technology will be ready in the next 12-24 months at least for the same places that Waymo are.
@charliedoyle7824
@charliedoyle7824 2 ай бұрын
You don't seem to realize how good Waymo is in their ODDs. They are driverless only in difficult city centers: in the entire San Fran, in downtown L.A., in 1/3 of Phoenix including downtown and the airport, and in Austin. They are also now driverless on freeways in Phoenix with a small initial test fleet. They have eleven million miles of continuous driverless robotaxi operation in these difficult areas with no big crash. FSD won't come close to matching that in any big city within two years. I doubt they will even be good enough to pull the driver and let one car drive around in a real city within two years. Tesla FSD avoids crashing now because a human is always driving.
