Lovely intro Simon.. really set the scene for the location. I was one who used to wander into the woodlands on bright days and I'll be honest it didn't bother me... I used to ike the shadow n light effect but eventually I go to understand that even on the most over cast of days there is light in there. I will still wander in there on a bright day if I get chance though as you says around the 2nd image.. finding that composition will put you in good stead for a return so the day is deffo not a waste. Yup, the image at 7:45 was the pick for me.. nice scene and the orton effect works . Wonderful location. atb Alan

Well done. You had far more success than me. I tramped about in my local woodland recently for a couple of hours. Couldn’t find anything amongst all the busyness. Took a token shot of a single leaf just so I had something to show for it! Nice walk though.

Great video Simon. I`ve not been fortunate to ever witness this spectacle but recently people all over the UK managed to photograph them. My son in law even managed one shot on his phone. One thing that intrigued me in this video, you said your Sony crop sensor wasn't really up to photographing the Northern Lights, I thought as long as you had a fast lens 1.2 or 1.4 that would be OK on any camera. I have two Nikon crop sensor cameras, so I wondered why you said that?
@simonlawphotography2 ай бұрын
Good question Steve and you are right. A crop sensor camera is quite capable of capturing the northern lights using a fast lens. I also don't know if I could have got any better photos if I had used a full frame camera. I quess I was comparing my images with some of the really good ones out there. Maybe not the best thing to do. Plus I'm really happy with my a6600. Glad you enjoyed the video.

I have not seen the northern lights (yet). Really good of you to indicate the difference between the camera and actual experience. We see so many images and speeded up videos of spectacular displays, I always wonder what it’s really like. I guess it’s all down to the conditions. Thank you.

Carry on past Combestone Tor and Saddle bridge, take the left turn before getting to Hexworthy. It's a narrow road. You can park on the right, just before the cattle grid and gate. There's only enough room for about 5 cars. Follow the road down hill and take the obvious track on the left. Follow this with the river on your right until you reach the bridge.
