I've had 3 of those pumps in plain white boxes not work on 500's. When I turn them over if the pump has a slot not 2 holes wont use it. Checked the seats etc, stuck Morgo's on and no problems.

I bet that is a DT 250 head gasket cos it has a smaller bore What a bodge , who would screw a head down when the gasket overlaps the bore ? Looks like u are doing a good fix , did u find a new piston ?

I have never seen a motor run with the cover removed. I was also expecting that intermediate gear to run across the floor. The pump problem was as said, a gasket blocking the oilway.

pretty bikes but its only when you strip them back that you see where the money goes ,never understand those welded brackets ,thought it was weird when the first r1 had a permanent subframe ,this bike was a replica of the endurance rvf 750 ,great video thanks

Gents, thank you very much for taking the time to do this video! It inspired me to dive into my 800GS again, exactly the same model you have actually, to try find the source of this very annoying sound. It started with me making my own Klackstoppers, but I took the forks out completely to do an oil change whilst at it. My reaction after testing was pretty much the same as yours, hopeful yet disappointing. I left it there for when I had more energy to dive further into this. The next phase of investigation resulted in me stripping all the covers and airbox out, also doing a deep clean of everything. In doing this, I identified two potential causes, there is a plastic cover on the underside of the frame, directly behind / above the radiator. Mine had a screw missing, likely from factory. I fixed that. Second potential cause identified is the "central chassis electronics controller", it is fitted vertically in front of the battery. Mine had vertical play inside its plastic mounting box. The suspense was overwhelming as I thought this is the bloody main cause of the noise! I installed some stick-on foam to the back of the unit and secured everything in place with a zip tie. Test ride resulted in yet another disappointment...... the sound was still very much alive and well.....!! Well, at least I cleaned the innards of the frame and airbox which is a plus. I was just not willing to let this go... at least for the sake of all us F800GS owners' sanity that is. Tonight, I took to the floating front disc rotors..... as a test, I installed 3 zip ties per rotor, passing each zip tie through the "rivet" hole to the one directly adjacent to it, with the zip tie's head facing inwards. Otherwise the zip tie will foul with the caliper. I tightened them as much as I could, spacing the 3 ties equally around each disc. Check that the play is removed from the disc and that the zip ties don't foul with the caliper!! Now, brace yourselves....... Took the bike for a spin, focussing on speed bumps and pot holes....... its as QUIET as a proverbial church mouse...... faaark me sideways... I reckon the sound of the floating discs travel up through the forks and ends up as this weird plastic noise we all know so well. So, the long term fix, what am I going to do? Two options, new discs or an alternative....... I'll be trying the alternative first. I'll re-crimp the rivets first, very slightly, to remove the majority of the play but still leaving room for expansion. this should do the trick and it'll be cheaper than new discs. I'll report back if needed! Hope this helps!!
