A space of transition between different phases of life are also defined as liminal. While a hallway is a physical transition, a hospital (for example) is a metaphorical liminal transition. (Either from pregnancy to birth, for both the parents AND the child; or from illness to death, or many other forms as well) The feeling of nostalgia for memories you never actually experienced is called Anemoia. John Koenig wrote 'The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows', which has definitions and examples of a LOT more emotions like this.
