I decided to be fancy what was stainless steel tubing half inch male and female fittings with two extensions for the foot and for the ratchet round $70.00 overall but it's nice looking and sturdy and does what it needs to do 72 years old and bikes are getting a little bit too heavy for this old fart so that's why I made it tried other designs of ropes harnesses but I decided I want something that would lift the bike that would be easy on my body so that's what I did have a nice day and be safe out there

My longest day was 550kms and it was a full day! I was whooped at the end. I tried to go between 300 and 350, that was a nice pace for me. It would take about 4 or 5 hours actual riding time.

Some very sweet roads - especially the bridge. Take your time and enjoy the moments - you can always extend your trip if you find a place that’s too good to just ride through. I’m eyeing a new NX400 for longer trips here, hopefully when you return we’ll have time to venture out for some multiple day adventures! (If the wind is cutting through your layers maybe use a plastic bag below the top layer). Continue the journey and thanks for the vids! 🖖🏼

On my way down, before Tasmania which I knew was colder than the mainland, I searched a used motorcycle gear shop in Melbourne. Thank God I did. It saved my butt. I would have frozen to death! I just know that a wind screen really protects from the cold, like Barkbusters protect your hands from the wind. But the bike is really great! I was cruising at 110 all day today. It's a Honda, that's all that needs to be said. I really like it. Even though it's cramped, it's so easy to ride, to maneuver. It's great for an old guy! And yes, it will be so fun to get back on my 500X, it will feel like a GS.

I've still not seen a kangaroo (not true, today I saw a dead one on the side of the road, road kill. It was big!) But I got to pet a wild Wallaby in a park in Tasmania, he was so cute, so friendly. (lots and lots of them killed on the side of the road).

Wow! Thank you for that! You’ve much more experience than I but I’ve done a few of these; in 2012 I rented a Boulevard in New Zealand and did 2 months on that thing. Both islands and mostly camped. It was great! That’s why I’m good with this trip, although shorter. I’m doing 4 weeks on this bike. And I’m now 1900kms in and am loving it! It is slow, 110 is over 7000revs. It’ll do 120 or so but not forever. Your being still in your 60’s I’d say “a puppy”, jokingly! The key is not to listen to those who are afraid of everything. Hang out with young people who are in awe of everything and adopt that perspective and then keep moving, don’t sit! Bless you! Thanks for your great comment!

Having travelled extensively using motorcycles (and motor and scooters) have to agree … that the motorcycle itself isn’t the priority. Luggage however, takes some consideration … more especially, if you intend camping. After a year riding from NE Europe, to Australia, realised in hindsight that I had chosen to carry too much. The additional weight of luggage changed the handling characteristics of my F650GS Dakar. Enough to make anything other than good sealed roads challenging. Quickly discovering after leaving Europe, Central, SE Asia and the Indian subcontinent, good sealed roads can be something of a rarity. As I’ve aged, came to worry less when travelling in far flung places. And learned to be content with whatever is available. Two of the best trips during more recent years, were Vietnam, Cambodia and India with my wife. Renting whatever seemed good vale. In the case of India and Kerala, a Chinese built scooter. And Vietnam, a Chinese built Honda XR150. Relying on whatever accommodation we could find along the way, negated the need for camping gear. Meaning a small backpack each, was manageable on a small bike … one thing that’s crucial. Is to understand that the ability to travel at speed in many Asian countries isn’t an imperative. In fact, ‘going with the flow’ is the only way to stay safe … Australia though, is a different prospect. Where the main roads through remote regions are usually good. Meaning you can sit on (or over) the speed limit, all day. And where wild camping lets you stay longer in those remote regions. So long that is, if you’ve got access to fuel and water. I was interested to find you’re 75 … and still taking on long distances. And on a relatively small mount, too. I’m just coming up to 70 myself. And have given consideration to following a coastal circuit of this sunburnt country, myself. But first have to do some more work in my travel bike … which like me is showing its age!
