Her voice sounds more soft/raw on this recording I really like it ❤ she’s a lyrical genius

Of all the songs she has not released, WTF Buttercup is one of the most wanted by her fan base, after Subway and the Giver. This is from far past the School Nights era as there is no cursive sound in it, and the lyrics are directly speaking to her own self questioning of who she truly is, much in the way "Love me Anyway" is, but much much more direct, It might have been one of the demo pieces she was developing for Rise and Fall, only for it to get discarded in favor of other pieces. It's a mature demo, that has not been scored beyond what Chappell could do with her home keyboards and such, but much more then her iPhone rough drafts which we've heard a few of. I wager there was a pile of these orphans that got cut, and this was just one of the most advanced. Perhaps she'll drop it a sa B-side or bonus track on something someday.

This is post School Nights, but pre-Pink Pony Club. I'll lay odds it's from the same 'between period' as "Love me Anyway" in 2020 in the dying days of the Atlantic Records contract. The cursive School nights style is almost gone, though there is a tiny hint of it still about, but it's clearly been discarded as her main voice, and she is finding her new footing. It's an interesting bridge piece between her eras and shows the transformation she made almost complete. Lovely. lyrics also.

every difference in this version: 1. guitar is a bit more prominent 2. chorus isn’t slowed down by 2 BPM 3. backing vocals in chorus less prominent 4. no call and response violins at the “and I cry, it’s not fair” part 5. no harmony at the “and I just need a little loving, I just need a little air” 6. missing background vocals during 2nd pre-chorus 7. violins seem to bleed through a bit more at the second chorus 8. missing vocals at the beginning of the bridge 9. missing the “you’d have to stop the world” at the end of the song

People are saying they don’t sound good but I think they sound great, speaking as someone who studying music theory. The only thing is I wish they didn’t breathe into the mic. But they were consonance with smooth harmonic sounds, they also sounded like a little improvisation to some of the notes.
