Thanks for posting this. It at least gives us insights about the way the participants think, the assumptions they are based on and the way they consider ( or not consider) the uncertainty principle..

I valued this, thanks. My concern is that at 14 mins the length may be putting people off watching. You may like to consider limiting it to 10mins. The opening headlines referred to carbon emission accelerating, but I didn't hear any further reference to this acceleration in the video , which I would have liked to understand.

Seriously? I know global warming is an issue but really? Why are you predicting something 26 years away when you can’t get a forecast 5 days away?
@joshblannin6760
@joshblannin6760 8 ай бұрын
Forecasting the weather depends on local atmospheric variability, which can be hard to model. However, climate forecasts are broad trend projections into the future. i.e no one could tell you the exact weather in 26 years, but we can estimate the averge future climate. We know increasing global temperatures have resulted in more extreme weather events, so it's a reasonable projection that further warming will continue to increase the frequency of extreme weather events globally/nationally.

I can predict that a full tank of fuel in my car will last about 600 miles, but I have no idea how much fuel my car will use to get up the next steep hill. So you could say "Why am I predicting something 600 miles away when I can’t get a prediction 1 mile away?"

My home is all electric, and I do not have a car. Has any account been looked at regarding our Sun, which is dying, and the process is that the sun is expanding and emitting more heat in the process , and has this been taken into account. The planet nearest to our sun, Mercury is now just a molten mass, Venus, next in line, is seeing higher temperatures. I think Elon Musk must be aware of this, that’s why he is seeking mankind’s life on Mars, which is considerably father from the sun, but the main problem is that the atmosphere is Carbon Dioxide, which obviously we can’t breath, hence his efforts to ultimately build domes on Mars, with some kind of converter to fill the domes with a breathable atmosphere for mankind. Obviously account needs to be taken that our Sun will ultimately end its life by exploding in a phenomenal way, which, it is thought, will be end of our solar system. This is the theory I am aware of, but is it being envisaged now, if Elon Musk is correct, it will have the inevitable effect of being the end of our Solar System. Hopefully whatever is going to happen may have been considered by future organisations.

Great research Aidan! I can see a lot of work has gone into making this video with all these collabs. I remember back in the day when Ethiopia had that drought and there was a state of emergency and fun raising. Now it is so common for equator countries to be in drought. These countries could really do with a trade agreement and priority for coco coir as a sustainable peat alternative. Even using cardboard as a cover instead of mulch and a worm breeding program, will all contribute. I really do think we can also play our part more, however small during extreme climates in our gardens too.

Well done Aiden. Well presented. There seems to be a disconnect between climate impact presentations like this and your weather forecast presentations. You, Alex, and your colleagues are ideally placed to close this gap by mentioning the role of climate change during weather forecasts. When talking about the Jet Steam, for example, you could easily explain the role of Arctic warming in its weakness, fragmentation, and periodic blocking. Keep up the great work. David
