You know that meme of that dude that’s eating food and he’s like “I mean it’s aight”? That’s how I feel about the game. I’m not in love with it but I don’t loathe it either. It gets dragged down by the dialogue and writing. I enjoy the codex and lore reveals but the rest of it is just mid to serviceable

@tuzuharurakutu It's because the channel is a re-brand of ABC's once popular Good Game which ended over eight years ago. The original fan base has likely moved on.

Heavily disagree with the combat critique. If you understand the combat system invest your points right area, equip the right equipment and use your companions right and invest their skills. You can melt enemies heath away even on nightmare

Dude, the combat in this game is lacking. Compare it do Dragon's Dogma 2 (which has its own problems no doubt), where you can grab a big sword and just bonk or play a mage with some of the best magic in any ARPG. The combat felt so impactful and powerful. This feels neutered.

“Takes place in the previously unexplored Tevinter.” This proves to me you didn’t play the game, or don’t understand it. The game does not only take place in Tevinter. Sounds like you’re reading off a controlled script. This game was incredibly disappointing. Also, the fact you said the choices are well done is crazy, the entire plot is on rails and you said yourself it does not diverge (except maybe a tiny bit in act3), meaning your ‘choices’ are entirely irrelevant.

So good review... but one thing that I would sugget... when you say "a few weighty choices..." it might be good to give a bit more descriptive envelope as to what is "a few". And I think there's much to be applauded in the game - but also a few things that should be rightfully highlighted. The quippy Marvel-like dialogue could be translated to Disney-channel-like writing... and the "I liked being in a team that liked being around each other..." I think exemplifies the game. If you want a no-stress-on-rails-adventure, I think it's likely a good buy... if you want the chance to role-play, and push boundaries, then you would likely be frustrated and annoyed. It's definitely not a horrible game - but it also doesn't live up to it's expectation, or promise.

My take: dlc doesn't count because you have to buy the base game to play it. You can't buy just the dlc, thus it is not a game of the year contender. The real GOTY is Satisfactory ❤

@@plebasaurues why wouldn't cyberpunk the phantom liberty be there then? Or why wouldn't they make DLCs a separate category? The problem with this is that in modern day AAA games generally are mid at best and this allows big western AAA devs to win awards way easier. Saying that the shadow of the erd tree is bad is straight up wrong but is it a "game" of the year? DLC? Maybe but definitely not a game

Why da hell is elden ring the main example for gameplay. When everyone thinks of gameplay they think of Nintendo games. They literally built all their games around being as interactive, having as many gimmicks as possible. Which is fun. Tetris is also a good example spinning around blocks. Honestly elden ring does little for game play. It just has attack and dodge. Drinking a potion and that's it. Some moves where you can summon clones of enemies. That's it. Nothing more in depth or complex about it. Time your attacks and dodges perfectly and you win every game.
