Not really one of his favorites. It was just another way for johnny to keep his loyal Jewish alliance.

Right. Carson had Brenner on as part of a plot to keep Jews in his pocket. That makes sense. (What would you do with your life if you couldn't point your filthy fingers at Jews every three seconds?)

As someone who lived and worked in Vegas for years, Thanksgiving is the biggest holiday of the year there. It's not a religious holiday so no guilt there and it's at least 4 days so plenty of time to have fun.

I LOVE D.Brenner, but I DONT dig the "fat" jokes.., not cuz I'm big, but, I've always found BIG Girls very sexy, and I got nothin against big guys at all. One of my bestest friends ever was a "big" guy.., he had the best sense of humour, and there was noone else you'd ever need at your back..!! .. I just think Brenner was smarter than that, and he didnt really need 2 b so f-ng mercenary. Too bad. My "2 cents". ..~Peace ..🥀

So, you're proposing that since you don't like it, it would have been better that he didn't do those jokes? I think that you're confused. This was a time when people were normal and their reactions weren't automatic outrage. Black people laughed at black jokes and Irish people cracked up when you insinuated that they were drunks. Now we have a PC culture that has made comedy all but impossible. The fact that ANY aspect of the things that a person says may be misunderstood in some way, there is little left that there is safe to make fun of. It starts out with you having a thought, but you don't realize that EVERYONE has thoughts too. It could easily get to the point where during a commercial shoot, if a bowl of oranges is deemed to “Trigger” a slightly overweight person(Because they are round and the same shape as an obese person), they would have to remove it in order to save the feelings of the person who has been insulted. When that happens, you'll come to the realization that "Feelings" are not a part of real comedy and were never meant to be. If you are both that self-important and are hurt that easily, stay home.

I was blessed to see him in person at Ceaser's Palace opening for Shirley McLaine and actually did something super embarrasing. It was winter and super cold in Las Vegas and I had gone with my mom, aunt and uncle who were inveterate gamblers. I wanted to go see Brenner and MacLaine and no one wanted to go with me so in the end my aunt relented and said she'd go, and so I said it'd be my treat, since she was really just going to do me the favor. So as we're standing in line rather early and fairly close to the front, she goes to buy programs, I was carrying a large purse and had taken my bulky fur coat off and had it draped on my arm and she gives me a program. After a while standing there my mom comes up and says here's the hundred you loaned me earlier, you might need it. As we're packed in line and I'm already juggling enough stuff, I just kept it in my hand and forgot about it as the line began to move. I was shocked when we got to the door to see that the whole front section was already filled, so disappointed I said to my aunt, aww, all the good seats are already all taken, and the suited host said, 'Follow me' and led us to the front and showed us to two excellent places very near the stage. I was in awe at out 'luck' and just let out the most appreciative 'Thank you!!!" He had a shocked look on his face whereas the rest of the people at the table had an amused look and I must've had a super confused look as I started to put the coat on the back of the chair, the program on the table and bingo! I saw the hundred in my hand. I wanted to die. But, hey, other than that it was a great show. R.I.P. David Brenner

yeah, he had lung cancer. i met david about 8 years ago. he had a house on long boat key here in florida and he was also on the board at the town council. i couldn't believe it was really him and once we became friends i use to tell him that i couldn't believe that i use to actually pay money to see him. i read his first book so many yars ago, it was called "soft pretzels with mustard" and i laughed so hard readind that book that i got bad stomach pains from laughing but i couldn't stop and then i started crying because the pain in my stomach were so bad, and i remember my mother taking the book away from me and washing my face and she calmed me down a lot snd nothing hurt anymore. then i started telling her about what he had written and the whole thing started again. listen, thank you for listening to me, i know you just wanted to know what kind of cancer he had. he went to n.y. to be close to his doctor and sloan-kettering which is a cancer hospital in n.y. which his doctor is on the staff there. it was one of the greatest experiences of my life to be a friend of david brenners.
