Written about my home City and made famous by The Dubliners and The Pogues. It covers both sides of my family and that’s why I love it! 🏴🇮🇪

when was this tune aired? i see different years on the internet. did it come out in the netherlands and a few years later aired in the states? some things i read say its from the 70s but i'm pretty sure i first heard it well later.

Yeah, because the song was popularised by the Dubliners, many people wrongly assume it is an Irish song. Luke Kelly would have picked it up from his time on the English and Scottish folk circuit, before he joined the Dubliners.

None of us should ever deny or regret or roots, my mum was and still is a "Cronin" although she passed away some years ago, her dad who she recalled little of died of cancer when she was a girl. There is more Irish blood in me than all the Yanks who think they are Irish!!!! I am part Irish part English....................

Never understood the appeal of this kind of song- with a vocal range of about six notes and the same musical and lyrical phrases repeated endlessly.

Dear God, I'm a humble aging man and don't ask for much. So how about this?: Make me find myself in a bar like this, a table next to them, and make me feel, live through this moment of beauty for real. Then I'm ready to go.
