When i listened to all this, i ask myself in which Germany you guys live in. And then i think about the Indian folklore about the 6 blind men and the elephant. Black pple have the tendency to generalise. Like most social experiences, there are a lot of nuances which can be raised. Your experience is your experience. I cannot take that awsy from you, but to try to portray your experience as the "way Germans are" is at least disturbing and worst, dishonest. The only thing black pple master today is to complain. We complain about everything. We even complain about aid given to us. We have become too cynical. And it is turning a lot of good non-african pple away from our sincere struggles. I have lived 25 years in Germany as a migrant and i have been with black women and white women . And my advice to my black sisters is " put your acts together" instead of just complaining.

Thank you for watching. Firstly it’s high time everyone understands that in today’s internet starting every opinion with “it’s not everyone” is redundant. These conversations, though sounding generalised are usually not directed at everyone. This needs to be understood. Especially when it comes to candid conversations on podcasts. I myself have had amazing relationships with some good Germans so I doubt they are meaning all Germans. We should move pass this idea people are generalising just because sometimes they fail to state it prior to sharing opinions. Secondly, agreed the nuances are many and cannot be covered in this podcast alone. The host stated many times this episode was not about a back and forth or push backs but to give the ladies a chance to air their very valid opinions. Lastly, as a Black man I disagree with “get your act together” directed toward Black women (let’s ignore the fact you just generalised your Black sisters, but my point exactly with generalisation) We as Black men have continually failed our Black women when it comes to to leadership, and building our community. Not to say Black women haven’t got some accountability but where is our accountability as Black men. We are always asking women to be “accountable”. Where is ours. What have we done as Black men to deserve this? What have we built? How have we protected and showed up for our women? It’s poor leadership to point fingers at our women when we have done nothing to protect them, whiles they are the most oppressed is any society.

She really spoke like a real woman nevertheless I think we as black people don’t talk about this enough what am I talking about,she said something about how blackman treat white woman and blackwoman. That’s a very good point but most black woman luck respect especially when the find them selfs in Europe am a victim of this kind of behaviour.she treatd me like a dog even though I did anything for her without her asking because I believe we are a team but that wasn’t the case My point here is we should really check ourself before we try to confront some issues regarding interracial relationships and racial relationships I’m engaged to a white woman now she treats me like gold so I treat her like diamond As blacks we are our own problems my brothers and sisters

Thanks for sharing. It’s a valid point. And yes I agree we need to discuss these issues more amongst ourselves. Both experiences are valid but what is the meeting point. As a people how are we lifting our community up regardless. How are Black men empowering their women. Though there are cases such as yours I don’t agree it’s most Black women. It’s always easy to hold Black women accountable for such scenarios but are we holding ourselves accountable as Black men for how we have collectively not been able to protect Black women. Who are arguably the most oppressed group in most societies.

The recommendation is optional in northern germany, but in bavaria, for example, it is mandatory. So, the further you go south the more likely you may encounter conservative ideas. And adhering to orders is conservative. Another thing is, the different schools used to be strictly divers in target job groups: Gymnasium prepared for studies, Realschule prepared office workers, and Hauptschule prepared Handwerker. But things are gradually changing. On one side, more and more parents sent their kids to Gymnasium, just to preserve their chances. On the other side, office and constructive workers are seen better and have higher level today. So its not that easy. What should be remembered as well: the vocational training of technical workers in germany is often as highly qualified as a university degree. Workers in germany are seldomly uneducated. And the former strictly seperate working classes now merge together: in the 80s and 90s the Blue Collar and White Collar workers came closer and closer, and today even academics come into the game. In my company for example, there are a lot of "dual students" doing a vocational IT qualification and then on top a university BA (or skip that, if they dont like so much theoretical stuff).

That’s a very interesting insight. Thanks for sharing. The more I learn about the education system the more complex it seems but also makes a little sense. My concern is that it doesn’t encourage for the students to take risks or even form a desired path to their future careers. It seems almost like it designed already for a student to follow. I don’t know how much freedom or creative expression that allows.

When will intelligent black people build their own nations? There are 54 African countries and a host of Caribbean islands dominated by people of African descent. Why continue to build Europe? They have had centuries of our free labor. When will it end? How many ways do they have to tell us that they don't want us?

1:40 I often hear claims of lack of money as a reason for racism, but I think that't just an excuse. I think racists just need to feel superior to others, and look for targets to beat up. Sure, when people don't have enough money in their pockets their resentment of others often increases - but there is no shortage of rich racists as well. 5:39 The "I don't see color" approach comes with a lot of privilege - as in, "I can ignore your entire life experiences as irrelevant."

After a hundred Years in Black America this is still very much a fierce debate. TO achieve power first through Economics and Then Politics Or to Organize People into Coalitions to vote for Political Influence ?.. America Elected 1 Black president and soon Maybe another. Many are still conflicted over whether Power and Equity was Achieved through these apparent victories in Politics. Certainly Higher accumulation of Wealth delivers higher chances in the Courts..(Though may not work for Diddy) Considering these groups that have carved out a Measureable amount in the Economy Of Germany -Turkey - Poland - Russia - Italy - Syria - Lebanon - Various African countries - Vietnam - China - Various Balkan countries - Caribbean countries - Latin American countries Which of these groups have Political or Social Power(Respect) in Germany and in what ways is it demonstrated? Certainly Africans (and Black Americans for that matter) could create more businesses.... in Germany that would deliver income particularly in an uncertain labor market. ...but bigger Innovating enterprises that could employ larger numbers of people in so called Mittelstand Companies that engage in manufacturing for the Export sector might have more Impact. Entering those sectors may require greater organized and cohesive efforts across National Boundaries.....This is where so called PanAfricanism really matters ....linking African Expats in Europe and Asia with our Bretheren in Africa. It could be the case that our People who got degrees especially in the West got absorbed by Corporations and thus never eventually leverage insider knowledge to build these Mittlestand companies that we would own. the shifting BRICS landscape should create a large number of new opportunities and no doubt challenges to go with it. There was a magazine in America for Black Business and Corporations called Black Enterprise it was started 50 years ago it was like a Black Version of Forbes. Is there anything like that magazine, in the UK, Germany, Netherlands etc?

I am not sure about the Dutch etc. Yea, We have some magazine focusing on Black wealth in the UK. Germany doesn’t have any I have seen so far. It’s pretty grim but the conversations are starting and it’s still a matter of getting most black Germans on the same page regarding economic growth and even that is proving very difficult. America did not elect one single black president and is not going in either case even in this election.... Obama is 50% so he isn't black, in south Africa they are considered mixed like they are. If you are 50% you aren't black by definition 🤦‍♂️ no one apart from some Americans thinks that makes any sense. People like Zendaya could easily walk in northern Africa or southern Europe and even pretend to be native but definitely not in Congo, and don't even talk about Megan Marple that is basically the avarage southern European woman 🤣.

Race is a construct made up of White men. We are a human race. We have African nations and aborginal people worldwide, but there is no "Black" race. "Black" people in modern times are the lineage of people enslaved in the United States of American Black Americans. White people reclassified the aboriginal people of the land to "Black, Negro, Mulatto" after the civil war. Those people fought for African people to come to America; some second-generation people no longer identify with the continent. The same thing happens to Africans born abroad, especially if they have mixed lineage. Being "Black" for most Africans only happens after they leave their homelands. They misnamed the so called American "Negro" as a African American today.

I don't think there is such a "Black German Community". Majority of black people in Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France etc. still are heavily connected to their africa heritages and are more attached to their African countries instead of a monolith black community like in USA. Europe is not like USA. I am Angolan living in Germany and first thing that comes into my mind when i see a fellow guy with my skin color is, "Wich country is he from?" "Does he speak my countrys language?"
@ConvosXpodcast
@ConvosXpodcast Ай бұрын
Agreed. This is both true and necessary. However being from the UK where we also have that attitude of holding on to our country and ask other Black people where are you from? To which you get many answers. Jamaica, Ghana, Angola, Nigeria, St Kitts etc. It’s beautiful. HOWEVER… We still have a shared identity as Africans and Caribbeans in the UK which we somehow collectively adopted “Black British”. Has nothing to do with wanting to be accepted by White British. It just so happens it is the country we live, work, raise our kids and pay taxes in and we have a shared struggle as Black people no matter which country we come from. This has allowed us collectively as Black people to develop our own Black British culture. We have our own music genre “grime”, “garage”, “Afro swing” and a large part of Afrobeats was popularised by African/Black British people. We have our own Black British movies and series “Top Boy” and “Supacell”. So you see. It’s is this unity and collective culture we have come together to celebrate and grow that allows us to thrive and guild wealth in the UK. Most of us take that wealth back to our respective countries where we can. We do this all while staying ten toes down in our own cultures and celebrating them. Sometimes probably more than Africans on the continent. The famous Ghana jollof va Nigerian jollof originated in the UK. We are also known for supporting Our country or other Black sports teams even when they play England. So it’s an amazing nuance we have created and we have allowed ourself to be both. This will be great for rest of Europe if they could achieve it but I have seen that many are not willing to come together. There’s strength in numbers. And I personally will advise and preach it wherever I can. It is not a matter of “copying” USA. It is a survival strategy that works.

Hi there! I listened to the podcast with great interest. It is, now, minute 28, that I would disagree with what was said. So from the historical perspective, this might be true. But today, it realy isnt. And even when I was at that point in school, which happens to be quite some years ago, it wasnt like that. Nowadays, it is a lot about inclusion. And for a child, that had the potential to visit a gymnasium e.g. but like myself had some trouble with being not very good at structure (keeping ur homework straight, having everything tidy up) the recomondation was to visit "Realschule" (The more or less "middle" part of the three educations). Not judged by the potential, but judgde by "this could be to overwhelming". However, when I was in the 6 grade, two years into Realschule, a lot of teachers said to my parents, that they would recommend changing school to "Gymnasium". Just because I good more mature, and had a better behaving and now could better live up to my potential. So my point is, that its not nessesarily smth about "filtering", but more about keeping an eye on the whole child, not just grades, but also potential, and social skills. I hope, it was clear enough. Sorry for the bad spelling. And of course, this is my opinion. To be clear and truthfull, I am born here, and I am white. Therefore, I realy cant compare, nor is it my wish to say that what was said here, in the podcast, is neither true nor false. Its just my POV. Cheers mate. As a Black American I can relate to almost every aspect of the Hon Irene Appiah's story. As I reflect on my Southern Born Parents who moved from an All Black Town to an Integrated Town 12 hours North in the USA. They wanted us to study Law, Medicine, Engineering. They always had Black History and culture books and magazines On the Shelf in the Home. I never had a clear enough perspective to want to take on American Institutions as a Lawyer , Doctor or Engineer where I had a vague sense that in entering those professions I would have to fight what I knew was Unethical or adverse to my developing principles.....despite as I learned later we already had Lawyers, Doctors and Engineers amongst our relatives. Instead I got a degree in Economics and entered the Corporate world where it was a constant battle to retain myself and to try to focus on starting my own Thing. Only now am I independent with my own Project Management Firm. I wonder if Our Diasporan Family in the UK, France, Germany, Netherlands etc also have Black history books in their home, that tell the story of our fight for self determination in the countries our parents and grandparents migrated to. I remember ordering a book from the UK more that 10 years ago called The Oxford Companion to Black British History by David Dabydeen .. and from that it ocurred to me that Black Americans and Black British have many connecting experiences. I also realize that Black People have been in Europe for Hundreds of Years and can rightfully lay claim to Unique Identities there VS always feeling Outcast as the "Other " I admire Your work Salut

Glad to see a new video. I've been looking forward to one so I'll get back with you once I've watched the video. Ok, this comment is for the discussion up what to call one selves.As a black American I can easily relate, We've been called coloreds.negroes, black Americans, and Afro Americans by whites and ourselves. Nowadays I 'think' black or Afro Americans, short for African Americans are the most common. That said, one will not get a consensus on this from Blacks. Some do not want the word African in there as they say they are not African, but American. Others feel the opposite about it. Just 2 news videos I saw recently on KZbin. A white South African woman went to Guyana in South America and started making Tik Tok videos about how she was the most attractive woman in the country and referencing the James Town massacre. The Guyanese kicked her out of the country with comments like the following. "Who does she think she is to come to a country of brown and black people with our own standards of beauty, but she thinks cause she's white she's the most beautiful. By the way, they made her apologize before kicking her out. Another video I saw just yesterday was of an African woman from Somalia I believe having a shouting match with black Americans. She was calling us slaves, the N word, no good for nothings, lazy, uneducated, etc And the Americans were shouting right back at here. Broke my heart. Ok, I'll watch more of the video later. Life. There is always the question here in the US as to if Africans and African Americans like each other. Personally here in the US I've had very good friendships with a man from Cameroon and a woman and her daughter from Eritrea. One of my best friends in France was from the Congo. I recently met a shop owner from Egypt with whom I discuss a lot of topics.

Your comment on possibly people using English more than German to promote their businesses, etc perked up my ears. It made me think of another entrepenure I've been following recently. He's a black American married with a woman from Venezuela and they have 2 children. This man buys, sells and owns properties in the US, Italy, Brazil, Columbia and I think Spain. When I started watching his videos he was doing a lot on owning property in Italy, and taking advantage of houses being sold in Sicily for $1 as advertised on CNN some time back. He loves Italy, but decided that he did not want to live permanently there because he wants his 2 young daughters to grow up speaking a more international language than Italian for which he just doesn't see it as having much cachet. Similarly, I never forget an article I read several years ago titled: Let's stop pretending that French is an Important Language written by linguist John McWhorter. He believes that French has lost a lot of its cachet and that fewer and fewer people are studying it in the US compared to Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, etc. Take away the number of French speakers from Africa, the Caribbean, etc and one has a lot fewer French speakers in the world. Personally, speaking French has been very good for me and one of the reasons I wanted to learn it is because of African Francophone diaspora around the world. I have absolutely no regrets that I learned French. I'm trying to learn German for personal interests not for its global reach. Thanks for the topic which I find very interesting. Oh, I almost forgot, anyone interested in the brother buying and selling properties outside the US, check out his website: / KZbin blog; Karl Pierre.

@@ConvosXpodcast My French conversation partner is from Haiti; We speak French once a week by skype. When we started he was living in Brazil. He just spent 3 yrs in Portugal and 2 weeks ago he moved with his wife and 2 young kids to Belgium. We discussed your suggestion that black Germans drop advertising, etc in German for English or at least do such things in German AND English. Now that he's in Belgium looking for work he said he finds most job positions posted in French and Dutch not just one or the other. Lastly, if you'd like to kind of get a feel for blacks in Brazil, check out the blog: Black Brazil Today. Brazil has the largest population of people of African descent in the world depending on who's counting. It's Nigeria or Brazil one and two; Brazil is a very interesting country when it comes to race. It got way more slaves than we here in the US. Finally, I tried to correct my mention of Karl Pierre before.. One can google him, but that's also the name of his KZbin blog. Thanks, love your content. I suggested you to some of my friends; you changed the name of your blog I believe.

Thanks for the recommendation. Checking that out now. For me it’s more about the population of the African diaspora that speak English vs German. French is quite popular too so I don’t have a problem with a Black business operating solely in French.

I m from Hamburg and live here. Been to London a lot and have lots of friends there… - nightlife … compared to London ? Yes, you right. Other than that it depends on what you are looking for. I can‘t say that Berlin doesn‘t offer a lot etc. , but i ve never really enjoyed the party scene. If i was into electronic dance music, that would be totally different - language … maybe try to watch movies etc. in German with subtitles. I m a huge believer that diving into another language even if it seems as if you don‘t understand anything, you actually do and learn without noticing - cash … without cash the government has total control over you. That last little resort of freedom matters imo - traffic … imo the driving in Germany gets worse and worse. A lot of people just don‘t think, not to mention thinking about others. Driving for an hour through Hamburg gets me stressed out and angry. I noticed the difference after using the subway again. It wasn‘t like that 10 or 20 yrs ago. I have no idea why this has changed ?! Smartphonesand SUV‘s maybe idk

go live a while in Saxony, Thüringen, rural Bavaria or Brandenburg before talking race relations ... the handful of large multicultural cities in Germany which actually developed tolerance dont really represent Germany very well. Not saying its particular horrible anywhere, just that the differences how a person of color is treated across Germany are huge. Especially in the far right regions you wont have the feeling of acceptance, inclusion and safety, especially when you are also from a non-western culture.

I think you heard what you wanted to hear or didn't listen at all. Even if a person does not like me, as long a I know. I'm OK with that. I am more concerned with those that do than those that don't and thats where I prefer Germany. Plus my White German friends are the first to tell me not to go into these areas. I am just learning this week that Southport is apparently very bad for racism and I've lived in the UK 25 years. I lived in Germany 2 and I already know not to go to Thüringen.

@@ConvosXpodcast seems you dont get the picture. I am not just refering to the openely racist but to the silent mass here, which is exactly what you say concerns you ... people who will make your life harder behind your back and with clear favoritism for racist nationalists, while in person will act friendly or at least indifferent towards migrants etc (especially when not in a group). Not just in Saxony this goes into police, public services and businesses which will engage in rather serious discriination thanks to the lack of oversight, consequences and public resistance. As for the recent racist violence and destruction in the UK ... we had these things come up far more often here in Germany, including burning migrant housing, bombs used on mosques and plain murder. And judging by the current spike of right wing crimes its just a matter of time this will happen again, with the public barely taking notice and certainly not enacting meaningful consequences to prevent repetition. Long story short, it seems you still scratching the surface when it comes to knowing the German people. Something probably only possible if you actually spend some time in those regions in question, rather then avoiding them as advised. Also becomes rather clear that very soon the silent type of German I talk about will teach you their true colors, as right wing extremism already rapidly gains popularity and influence which in return gives all the cowards of the general public the confidence to be more racist again. Wish you were right about Germans, but I am pretty sure you just began to get to know us. Anyway, stay save and all the best whereever you are.
