Prairie dogs only live a short 4 years maximum in the wild. They CAN sometimes live to as long as 8 years. Big Ounce was already pretty older when he was rescued, he was also morbidly obese and neglected before he was rescued and then also survived cancer. He lived surprisingly long for all of the issues he had. Pretty sure he passed in his sleep. In a few past videos, Uncle Ben also mentioned that he Big Ounce was “getting up there” in his age, too.
