Sad, dead coral reef. Still beautiful for a swim but I think pollution has just damaged the reefs.

One thing I noticed as I knew almost every inch of the reef is that it doesn't have the vibrance as it once had in the 70's. I didn't see any sea urchin on the reef which honestly is a bit distressing. Still beautiful but sad to see how much it's changed.

Awesome. We had an original shack there from 76-81 and they really were shacks! Some of the best years of my life were spent snorkeling,diving,sailing,boogie boarding,exploring and relaxing.

Since you spent so much time there, is it a spot that's good for kids to snorkel at?

Sad to see that most of the corals on this reef are dead

Truth. In the late 70's and early 80's it was an explosion of color and life. Aside from dead coral I also noticed that there were no urchin. It used to be teaming with them,short and long spined.

Hey Hess. It's Jim. Your videos are informative and awesome. I am really enjoying this video also. I should visit there after covid-19. Keep in touch, and make some hanging out together as getting better this situation. Even though today was our last official meeting, my next office will be closer to your building. Have a great thanks giving. PS. I think most your recordings are about ocean activity in Puerto Rico. I am making my videos for my wife almost 10 years, so there were various kinds of things, which means it could be hard to find interesting ones. If you are interested in ocean sports and if you want spend some spare time, I think this playlist would be good for you. kzbin.info/aero/PLtjA4156ch_NxxnV-xU-M650H4lqcWlSz

Thanks! I have a few more to edit and post, bit we moved to South Korea now, so will make more of the area here and hopefully travel to some tropical Asian places to snorkel. I got some new camera gear too, so hope to make more soon.

You are swimming directly in front of the Villa Tropical Hotel and Oceanfront Apartment Rentals. Established in 1990, 30 units of various size, age and luxury. Check them out @shacksbeachpr on facebook or website Villa Tropical.com. Next time stay oceanfront at Villa Tropical and shore dive and snorkel all day long. Nice video. BTW - always walk east and access the blue hole that way as the current naturally pulls westerly. Stay home and be safe but join us as soon as you can. Cheers, JT.

I recommend that area to anyone going! Tight roads, but we'll worth it.

Great video! (And just did Mosquito pier yesterday in Vieques with scuba!) Was trying to find out where this dive is. Is it at the end of the Hacienda Belvedere road? Staying just south of there and trying to find a good snorkeling spot near Cabo Rojo and can’t find good info. Thanks and look forward to your next videos!

Yes- I'm pretty sure that's what we saw. I wish the camera had been on. Well, that gives us more reason to go out filming again- to look for another.

Very cool! Nice videos. Have you ran into any barracudas yet? Where do you go snorkeling?
@hessfamilyadventures17926 жыл бұрын
Yes- we see smaller (2 feet or less) barracudas all the time. Went out today and saw several. We snorkel on the west side of Puerto Rico, just south of La Joyuda (which is south of Mayaguez), and also at Buye Beach (south of the main beach). We live very near the beach, so often stick close to home since it is so easy to go there. We are moving to Aguadilla this summer, so will have to explore up there too!

Thank you for this great footage. I stayed in this exact spot two years in a row but was never out snorkelling. Now I know what I missed. Have you ever snorkelled in the South Pacific? It is fantastic! So colourful and so many, many fish. I am impressed with this water considering the recent hurricane. By the way, I recognized my friends in the group of locals you encountered. One of them sent me this video. Great film coverage.

Never been in the south pacific (yet). First time we've really been near the ocean for more than a quick vacation. Taking advantage and loving snorkeling. We live very near this beach, so easy to run out when we have a few minutes. We can't wait to explore more locations for snorkeling. The ladies we met on the beach helped us find the good spots outside the shallows- we were kind of chicken before that, but glad we went exploring!
