I have a reserve chute on the LHS just below the arms. Its affixed with straps to the shoulders. If the main wing collapses, the reserve is designed to handle the weight of the entire 'plane' and passenger. I could always unbuckle and jump out, but that would be likely called 'suicide', if at height. Not to mention the danger to the public from a free-falling ppg.

Nice review! Do you have wny informations about fuel consumption ir rpm needed in level flight with your set up? I am searching dor my next xc wing and i am not able to test every wing with out driving hundreds off Kilometers.

The piper drinks the fuel. I doubt its efficient enough to be a good XC wing, if distance and fuel is more important than speed. I burn around 5lph on the piper. Its a fun and solid wing, but hungry. In contrast, I burn about 3lph on my 24m Wasabi. The rpms on the piper are much higher in level flight. I was quite shocked how much lower rpm the wasabi was and how much easier it was to hear my music...

Arrow is in right possition, but you need to mount tire backwards. Thats because your tire is front bike tire. Front tires is always mounted in reverse position, to reduce vibrations/wobblings. So for the bike arrow is correct, but we need a traction wheel, so it should be mounted as rear bike wheel - backwards

I really enjoyed how solid the tire would ride. It allowed me to keep lower pressure to mitigate bounce. The knobby was fun too, but the Scooter tire felt more applicable for street. I never did get it to hydroplane, but I also never turned it around to compare. I honestly can't say that I have a definitive answer to the differences when mounted on an euc I've ridden on my roads. I dont own the Sherm any longer. I did keep a couple others, but chasing the speed demons ended, before I destroyed it. I still ride, but Im also flying a bit. Thanks for watching!

This particular airport has a couple pilots like this. Its the people who rely on it for generating revenue, that seem angry. What led up to this, was 2 ppg pilots crossing a runway at mid field and landing. Before motors could be removed, we were approached and given instructions on where to fly. We had been venturing out away from the airport, as to not be in traffic. I have the entire encounter, its just not public. Find me on FB and I can link it to you. Tbf, we werent very complaint once approached. The entire situation could have been handled better, but what's the fun in that?

I decided I wasn't going to fly in nil wind conditions. The result was I didn't fly at all! It was storming or nil. So I thought I'd just be very conservative and try, try, try. Last week in nil wind, I got airborne the first try (wasn't pretty, though). This week, I gave it 3 shots without success. Either I need to be able to do this, or I need to only fly somewhere else, or the last resort: quit. But thanks for putting up the fails. There's a reason why they don't give you (or aren't supposed to give you) PPG3 unless you can consistently launch in nil wind: it's physically demanding and just dang hard to do right.
@shanesplanetshane3795
@shanesplanetshane3795 10 ай бұрын
Man I hear ya. Nill wind is my usual. I've only had chance to try one reverse and it wasnt even needed. My biggest issue in nill is i just aint got much chug to this small frame body of mine. I do have better success when I walk back to the trailing edge and get a good start, BEFORE being slowed by the wing. 80lbs on my back is about all I can barely carry at start of season, or when its been a long time. I learned on my big 27m pg wing. You want to talk about a pita to get overhead in nill when its smokin' hot out! Having a breeze makes it stupid easy in compare. Keep your head up, dont get discouraged! Some wings are much easier to get to pop overhead. Some wings do best when only using inner A's to inflate. I had one wing for a while, that required me trim out, to even stand a chance at getting it past the tug/fail zone. A lot of my 'fails' are merely from me setting up with lack of room, or totally misreading the wind direction...

@shanesplanetshane3795 Boy do I feel your pain. Although I've gotten very good at hitting my kill switch and haven't damaged equipment (recently) , I am currently sitting at 5 failed launches in a row. All nil wind. It's really getting old, since I know that if I get in the air, it's going to be smooth as silk. Next launch attempts will have the 360 camera on helmet like you so I can see what I'm doing wrong to cause my wing to keep dropping back down. I know I'm pulling brake somewhere, just not sure when. Appreciate this video because it reminds me to persevere. Happy flying!

I actualy prefer more open areas. You can't leave the LZ area around here, as they are VERY sparse. Most fields that appear good, are hillsides or strewn with fencing or power lines. Big open areas have less turbulence down low. I like big open fields and lakes to stay warm and low over. Of course, variety is my fav. Flying at the foot of the mountains with open lands behind you, is great.

Based on your experience, do you think the Piper is safe for a brand new pilot right out of school, as their first wing? Or would it be a better idea to start with the Baja? Btw, I have no interest in acro. I just want to cruise around and explore. Safety and speed are my two biggest wants for a wing, mainly to cut through headwind.
@shanesplanetshane3795
@shanesplanetshane3795 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, the piper isnt really a great first choice. I am thankful I started on a much more passive and easier wing. I still fly it as well. I think the piper reccomends 100+hrs flight time. Don't fret, there is LOADS of fun to be had on a beginner wing. Youll eventually own two wings or trade, but dont rush it. Thanks for watching...
