Blackened Redfish and Redfish on the Halfshell are two completely different dishes. You actually made Redfish on the Halfshell with Blackening seasoning. I’m sure it was quite good!

In Texas, they have to be between 20 and 28 inches to keep. Smaller than 20 or more than 28 and you have to release them.. You're allowed to keep one per year that's over 28", but I don't. They aren't as good eating as the smaller ones, and they're the ones that breed the most. So back they go! (I also release most of the ones I catch between 20-28 too.)
