These used to fly from a grass airfield 1 mile north of Oranmore until activities were transferred to Carnmore, the site of the Galway airport, no longer serving commercial flights. Eventually Connemara airport was built just north of Aranmore to make the flights shorter and Aer Arann transferred to that location with a connecting bus service operating from Galway city. The BN2 is a STOL aircraft specially built for interisland and short commutes. Scottish airlines operate several examples to the Hebrides and other offshore islands.

You find Islanders all over the world. I flew as a passenger in them many times in the mid 1970s on the other side of the world from Ireland. In and out of bush airstrips on islands in the South West Pacific. Love that engine sound.
