Henrik was way ahead of time back then, I picked up alot of fishing techniques by practicing what I've learned in all of his dvd's.

HAVEN'T SEEN THIS VIDEO in a DECADE... ... and Henrik is STILL the grand meister of truly elegant, POWERFUL casting techniques! As I watched I realized just HOW MANY lessons I've learned from this ONE video over the past 10+ years, but you need to watch it at least 20 or 30 times, over & over & over again. It's THAT kind of "triple-distilled spey lessons" ;-) -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS

such a simple little thing but a big help on the water, scandi casting is a great method and very effective, i am into my 4th season here in scotland and only now am i at ease with my casting, but watching the scandinavians was the biggest help to me, eventually i ironed out my mistakes and suddenley it all came together

This style works exceptionally well from pontoon boats! I use it on river drifts, back bays, lakes, and even ocean (So far I still have both feet, Ha!). I use a 13'6" 8 wt. Average about 70', effortless casts. I would appreciate some feedback as I describe this cast in terms of FFF Definitions that I have capitalized: Overall this cast has a small CASTING ARC. Heinrik is adding TRANSLATION (body/hand) before ROTATION in direction of cast, defined as, I think, DRAG. This is a loading maneuver that adds power to the cast, rod bend, and keeps slack out of line. Adding TRANSLATION = greater STROKE LENGTH = > line speed. TRANSLATION also causes the rod and hands to stay coplanar in an Oblique Posterior/Anterior casting plane. This oblique plane intersects a Posterior/Anterior Parasagittal plane creating a straight line and rod tip path There is also a slight downward, upper hand TRANSLATION coinciding with ROTATION, also on this oblique plane. The lower hand (also coplanar and moving on this oblique plane) is where the rotational power is generated. The more coplanar and smoother the acceleration to a brisk stop the CASTING STOKE is = better Rod tip tracking and more efficient cast. Here is my question: Does body/shoulder rotation in the transverse plane, create a slight curvilinear rod tip path? Google "FFF Definitions" for defs and pictures. I know, a bit wonky....

Crap dude . . . you’re overthinking it. Must not be fun for you. If you’re only casting 70’ with a 35’ casting head, you do need help.

Why not use a single hand rod for Spey casting. And a 2 hander is still just a fly rod only longer.

A wonderful video. I never thought I'd try double hand casting because it seemed too difficult, but Mr. Mortensen artfully and clearly illustrates a double hand casting technique so well and in a manner that makes much sense to me that I'm actually going to go out and get a Scandi outfit to start with. Thanks for posting it, and thanks to Mr. Mortensen for being such a fantastic instructor.
