Regarding 1998 Detroit being like how Oakland was during 88. Detroit during 1998 had calmed way down. But, Detroit during 1988 was a VERY dangerous place to be. I was living in Detroit back then. It was just as bad as LA and Chicago due to the crack epidemic. There were killings at schools, funerals, etc. There are a lot of vintage videos of Detroit during the 1980s. I was barely 20 during 1988. And the same violence was going on during the early 1980s. When I'd moved back from Milwaukee during the early 90s. Detroit was still dangerous but as Detroit got closer to the late 90s. It was dangerous but it tamed down a lot during that year. Around 1998. Detroit was pretty much a shell of itself. Vacant homes with grass and weeds damn near the height of the homes. Sometimes you'd find bodies dumped in those yards due to the height of the weeds. Entire blocks of Detroit was abandoned. I met this passenger here in the Bay area Cali. He was from San Francisco south side. Another rough place back in the day. Anyways. He told me that he use to get into a lot of criminal and gang trouble. So he had a boy who was from Pontiac, Michigan who suggested that he lay low in Pontiac. This was during the early 90s. I remember replying to him, saying that I use to reside in Pontiac. And that place was dangerous too. It was the equivalent of Richmond California and East Palo Alto. Two small cities here in the Bay that were notorious for violence around the same time frame during the 80s like Detroit and Pontiac due to the crack epidemic. He was able to stay out of trouble in Pontiac because he wasn't familiar with it. However. He'd pointed that Detroit made him nervous due to the abandoned homes in those hoods. As he'd told me. He'd never seen anything like it. The brotha turned his life around and now plays a major role in helping out the community here in the Bay. You never know who you meet here in the Bay area. There are a lot of us Detroit peeps living here. And a lot of Oakland natives have family in Detroit and vice versa.

Who cares, some of my people are so caught up in gang culture and where they represent that they can’t see the forest for the trees, the streets in those cities in those towns in those areas were there before you were born, and they will be there when you die, do something productive with your life and try to build some generational wealth for your children and grandchildren
