Good to see the car finally race, was that correct in the commentary, that it was first built in 2008?! Obviously got a list to work through, what is the plan next? Or will that be the next video?!
@schoolingthescholar53233 ай бұрын
Yes, it's true about the original build date. I'm going to fix and make it great!
@daveparry15693 ай бұрын
Shame not to finish but you'll have learnt a lot about the car and what you need to do to make it work reliably. Seems like making that clutch work is the big one. Could the oversteer just be the tyres? Or might just be the set up needs adjusting - if its set parallel maybe try a smidge of toe in on the rear and a little more negative camber
@schoolingthescholar53233 ай бұрын
Thanks for your input Dave. The rear is a live axle so unfortunately I can't adjust the geometry. Tyres are definitely an issue, as might be the exhaust position next to the tyre. I'm hoping the clutch can be fixed by replacing the master cylinder. 🙂
@hippyjason3 ай бұрын
Install the rear wing, buy a set of slicks, a set of wets, fix that clutch, adjust the... Still, progress was made. At this stage of the project, that's all you can really ask for.

I have to say I love the "shed engineering" solutions to some of the little finishing bits. All it has to do is work and pass scrutineering! The breather catch tank brought back memories of a few years back when a rally we were doing in the old Mk2 escort had a stage around Snetterton circuit and we didn't realise until we got there we'd need a catch tank on the crankcase breather as not normally needed on stage rallies. Bought a bottle of pop, quickly drank it, gaffer taped the empty bottle in place with the breather hose in its neck - sorted. Scrutineer happy! Good luck with Donnington

It may not have blown off but you could see the massive panel gap appearing on the whole front section as the speed increased and twisting it around the pin 😔 Carbon fibre strengthening strips maybe?

Yes it's still an issue. I will tape it down for now. Maybe there is still too much airflow, some more radiator tape I think.

Any reason the live axle would be preferable to the transaxle? What gearbox do you use ?
@schoolingthescholar53236 ай бұрын
I use the Robin Reliant gearbox. Main benefits of live axle are 1) Overall car weight is lower, as you have to use a production car gearbox. The 'trannys' struggle to get down to the minimum weight. 2) More underfloor aero options, specifically diffuser. Due to the gearbox placement the diffusers have to be really short on the 'trannys.'

the 750 mc ran formula to suit the racer who wanted to build their own car. I raced an Austin 7 sports special, later a formula Vee Scarab, and a Caldwell. In between times a frog eye sprite in the 6 hours, and spent some time as a director of the club. All good fun and great lot of guys. super video and interesting 750 car.

Lovely...most interesting... It's amazing how these people build these cute and cleverly designed cars... I can see from this video, that they drive respectfully...strange to see these days... Pity you do not have more cameras situated around the circuit...or friends... I think you do a good coverage...but wish you could put more time in the camera re cars and engines... I know very little about these cars and the specs. Many many years ago l was a member of the 750 club and received a mag ....but that was long ago.. Now over in Spain..and retired. But would love to build a 3 wheeler... using a 800cc 3cyl Daewoo engine and gearbox..

Great stuff. Glad to see you enjoyed it as well! What did you think was the reason for the seat failure, was it how it was mounted or do you think the grp was just a bit thin?

A bit of both really. Having a chat around the paddock I wasn't the only one having trouble with that brand of seat, but I was also told the mounting needs to be better.

Hi, have you built in some anti dive on the lower wishbones? Also how do you change the diff ratio's, is the diff easily removable?
@schoolingthescholar53232 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim, the diff is from a Morris Minor so is easily changeable. I haven't built in any anti-dive, mostly because I don't understand it and with my wishbones it's not something I would be able to adjust. Also, this car shouldn't be too aerodynamically sensitive, so this reduces the need for anti-dive.
@kimperry48232 жыл бұрын
@@schoolingthescholar5323 hi again, diff change on my car could be done in 30 minutes easily. It's just that your installation looked more difficult. As regards anti dive it's the rear pick up of bottom wishbones that would be raised, it helps dive under braking. All the best with your endeavours.
@daveparry15692 жыл бұрын
looking good. I noticed in your comparison of bump steer and camber gain from old to new you are moving the new one through a much bigger arc of bump which probably isn't realistic for a track car and I suspect your dampers don't have that much range anyway. If you limit the movement to something like 50mm I suspect you'll have no perceptible bump steer
@schoolingthescholar53232 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave. Yes I think there will only be 50mm of range anyway, the ride height will be 40mm.
