huh hearing sodor gaining independence from the uk in 1997 throught an referendum is interesting as it will definitly have an impact into UK politics like i will remind you that sodor gained independence the same time of an UK general election and like it increases the possibility of scottish and even welsh independence

I enjoyed this video quite a bit. I've always wanted to make my own HC for Sudrian political leaders (Sodor stays a part of the UK in my canon), but I'm American, and British politics confuse me. I like how you went into details about the most famous and infamous PMs.

My headcanon is the same tbh. Sodor is basically kind of like the Isle of Man, a semi independent, self governing Crown Dependency. They rely on the UK to represent their interests overseas (albeit this is subject to some leeway; sometimes Sodor represents itself in competitions like Football (Soccer), Rugby, and railway related stuff) and defense. (Though Sodor has a Constabulary, The Sodor Regiment is a contribution to the British Army that defends the Island ala Falkland Islands Defense Force)

I think it’s nice, but I don’t agree with sudrian independence, Sodor would probally be apart of the UK, as one of the kingdoms, or like a sorta territory like the Isle of Man, Mostly because, if Sodor cut ties with Britain, they couldn’t send their trains over to barrow, And they probally would get occupied because of how good of a location it has and mainly because it would be weird to have a random island near Britain, And also to say, if Sodor did all this stuff, then I think that Britain would collapse, as Scotland and wales would see the UK is weak.

I agree, Sodor is far too small and far too close for it to be independent without the UK choosing on their own to cut it off. I can somewhat accept Sir Topham figuring out how to get out of being a part of the big four or BR, but not so much this.

Sorry... I'm not entirely sure you've properly thought through the implications of Sodor being an independent nation. Looking at it from a purely transport perspective, Barrow would essentially have to be two separate stations, one for Sudrian trains, and one for British trains, with border control facilities in between. It would also make your St Pancras express services unviable, again due to Britain's hard stance on it's borders.

It can probably be assumed that Sodor ended up joining NATO and possibly even the EU due to its ties with Britain (the EU part is probably up for debate)

@@Silverlink28 NATO can be debated (though they will just profit off of NATO defenses if they are "neutral" similar to Ireland). However they would absolutely be EU. The EU started as the "European Community For Coal and Steel", the 2 single most important resources in Sodor. Coupled with the fact they trade so much over sea and internationally, the EU benefits of free trade and open borders would be a no-brainer for the country
