Because he knows how to use the contour jig but not how to put up siding. Also, running the end of the board to butt against the window, but not continue over it is just sloppy.

Much much faster to snap top lines for each course. Then you line the top of your shake to the chalk line and nail. Repeat

Cover the ice and water shield with synthetic underlayment otherwise the shingles will seal to the surface .

A inside ground is a much better option Even though those stained shingles are kiln dried they still will expand and contract And I would put some felt in the corner to give more coverage I don’t have as much faith in the zip system as most
