I stand corrected. Other faces did not have blue tones, just blue background. Ha, ha.
@malgozata187514 сағат бұрын
Hello Ben, you really have a talent for painting faces. This is another perfect, gorgeous creation. It's interesting that you always choose blue tones. Any reason for it?
@BenHeffernanArt5 сағат бұрын
Hi, Yes I do love blue. I don't really have a set colour that I use though. I let the painting take care of that. Portraiture has always been one of my first loves, when I started painting probably because my big sister painted them often and she has always been a big influence on me. Her realism is something to be seen to be believed. I can paint pretty much anything if I have the time and the will but there are so many great realism artists on here that do a great job. My heart is for the beginner. My very first comment I got on my first video was from a lady that said she had watched so many art videos on KZbin and when she seen my first video she thanked me and said she was overwhelmed by the more technical videos yet when she watched mine she said "I can do that!" So that was encouraging. Having said all that I may pivot to offering a few more advanced videos in the future. We'll see. Hey anyways thanks for commenting.

@@BenHeffernanArt What a lovely share, Ben! I love that comment. Absolutely. Is it possible to see your sister's work? Is she still painting? I admire you being able to do just about anything. I enjoy flowers, mostly, though I tried scenery and boats on water. Boats are tricky because of getting the right perspective. Yikes! Faces and animals, to me are most difficult, but I am not really drawn to painting them. I really an learning to paint only for my own enjoyment, as a challenge. it's so satisfying to be able to paint something i want to paint.

Hi Ben, i took your advice and checked out Joseph Zbukvic. I don't know if you saw my message back to you. I think i wrote twice in response. I am mentioning it here again because in the video i found of Joseph, he shares the key to success in any endeavor. That's a powerful reminder to me and a powerful advice to everyone, be it painter or business person. Thank you again for your wonderful suggestions. You are awesome and the first person who actually suggests other artists' KZbin videos. Ha, ha. You have a good heart. Have an awesome day. Thank you

Nice! I'm glad you are resonating with him. He is a master. I can just look at his art all day. I love his street scenes but his landscape perspective is something else. Plus there's one where he's painting a chef at work in his kitchen. He captures the steam off the pots n pans just the whole scene is fantastic. To me that's art! Yes I don't mind mentioning other artists and here's another awesome acrylic artist named Barry McCaan he's an Aussie painter and his wife Lucy are both very, very good. Happy painting and learning!

Ben, I admire your talent. Like me, you didn’t attend Uni & earn an arts degree. We learned through years of practice, trial & error, persistence, & the school of a Joy For Painting!
@BenHeffernanArt14 күн бұрын
Hi Michelle. Yes that's right nothing beats practice, persistence and also a little passion in the mix. I wasn't going to subscribe to the starving artist idea so I didn't pursue art as a career but the "Art" never left me even though I pretty much put it on the shelf for 20+ years. Somehow the skills kind of stayed with me. Although I'd love to know what level of competence I'd be at now if I'd stuck with practicing my craft during those 20 odd years. I now feel constantly in catch up mode. Now I preach a different message one that probably isn't that popular. I say go the starving artist route! Nothing will ever satisfy you if you have that spark of creative flair in you. I've had businesses, worked many a different job all have never given me the sense of worth I get from my art. That self satisfaction I get isn't explainable but it's real. I can build a house and go to bed feeling ok. I "paint" one of my own creations for the day, I go to bed feeling awesome. I feel I've achieved something in the day. No job or career has ever given me that. Sure I can provide and pay my bills with a job but not that sense of fulfilment. Unfortunately we have to trade time for money which I'd prefer spending elsewhere like honing my skills. So I tell young people that love art to stay the course, go the starving artist route. Somehow things will work out. There's people that passionate out there, they'd rather paint than have their next meal. Those people make it. Sorry for the novel but in a nutshell Yes I agree it's all about the art and getting your hands and head amongst it in a practical sense. Thank you Michelle.

@@BenHeffernanArt The novel sounded so much like my life too, Ben! I always loved drawing, colouring in etc., as a kid, & my parents noticed. My dad met a wonderful lady through his job, who taught children oil painting, & charcoal sketching from her home. He asked me if I’d like to go, see if I enjoyed it. I was 11 then, & kept going, after school, for several years. I loved it & loved my art teacher too. She wasn’t trained, didn’t have a degree, but had passion & skill. She really instilled a love for painting & drawing in me, which never left me. Through my life I’ve married, had a daughter, worked different jobs, but art was my real love. I’m retired now, & I’m going to give it my all, & see what I can achieve in my 60’s! I completely understand all you said, & I thank you for your heartfelt response. I’m a big fan.

@@michellelittle9184 Absolutely beautiful! And your Dad! What a champion! To see you had a flair and let you explore that creative spark. Wow! My hero was my big sister. I was very lucky as she was so talented I only had to watch her and we'd often sit up together painting and drawing till late at night. Very fond memories. I was always in awe of her ability and that urged me on to always achieve better in myself. She managed to capture realism around 16 and then by the time she was 18, I remember she painted Rod Stewart the singer off a record cover. I was absolutely blown away! I was 10. When I seen first hand what practice and love could do I was hooked. Only people like you and I truly understand that feeling. I'd love for everyone to experience it. At least once anyway. I miss my Oils not sure I'll ever return at this stage but now I'd like to master acrylics to the point where people ask, Is that oil? he he. Thanks for commenting and sharing.

Hey Ben, How have you been? I have been busy painting. Hence the silence. Chilling now and scrolling through my subscribed to channels. I just thought that i would share this with you. I know that everything is becoming faster and faster nowadays. But painting is supposed to be relaxing, not stressful. Relaxing to me, means slow, fun, at your own pace. Be true to yourself. Don't try to please anyone else. Don't focus on getting more views, etc. Just have fun. That's what will attract viewers, that positive energy. Hope you don't mind my bit of honesty. At the moment, it is boats and sailboats. They look easy, but to get the right angle and perspective on the boats.... it's tricky. It's my third boat painting. I might quit after this and return to my flowers. Ha, ha. Have a great day.

I found them both. Wow! What an artist! What a man! BEST advice for everything in life: "What destroys painting is not the technique. It's the lack of confidence, lack of belief, faith. That’s what ruins it. If you don’t believe that it’s going to work, you will never convince the viewer that it will work." - Joseph Zbukvic.
