Back then it was about £12 each. It required a lot of hollowing out the 3D mesh to make it that cheaper. I plan to get more printed as I am re doing my online shop. However, it is a bit more expensive now to get the print from Shapeways. I may try other companies to see price differences.

What are the tools you use to do retopo now? Are there any good auto-topo tools you can recommend?
@jamesabell9494
@jamesabell9494 10 ай бұрын
To me it reminds me a lot of photogrammetry scans, lots of tris etc. However, for now retopology tools such as Quadremesher in Blender and Retopology Modifier in 3DS Max and some hand editing are ways to improve the models.
@jamesabell9494
@jamesabell9494 10 ай бұрын
@@samshennan Retopo tools I yse and recommend are 1. The Quadremesher addon (paid) in Blender and 2. if you use 3DS MAX, the retoplogy Modifier. I find even with these, the model still may need some tweaking beforehand and splitting up materials, subgroups etc to help with the retopo process with the aforementioned tool.

I am not sure, I guess its best to keep up with using the latest developments to ensure you stay relevant with your skills. However, as you can see in this video the models made using these current systems are not amazing, yet! Some modelling processes, I will be glad to see the end of such as a lot of tedious work with UV mapping and will allow more time for creative work.

@@jamesabell9494 this tech is most likely never gonna evolve like it did with 2D. It's called 3D reconstruction, not 3D Ai, and has been arround for many many years. In the end, the output is a low res scan which is almost never usable. The tools to generate good 3D models already exists and aren't AI (metahuman, character creator, procedural systems, kitbashing etc)

@@alexandre.m fr people seem to forget ai is just a recycled hunk of stuff, if its been done before the ai can do it, anything else it will struggle. i dont think this will really push people out of work
@jamesabell9494
@jamesabell9494 10 ай бұрын
Hi @@alexandre.m these are just investigations and I tend to agree with you (at this point in time) and there is such a huge resource of premade models out there and parametric systems that create much better models and have a much more creative workflow. I could see a lot of apps etc being developed for this, for example for people or children to make models through text or image to allow for learning and creation, ie something like Lego apps etc. But sure, things that come along may slow people down especially if they are new to 3D and are not aware of all the other better systems out there. I have seen this with 3D printing too, users with little or no knowledge of 3D modelling get "stuck" creatively and seem happy with just downloading a star wars model and printing it out rather than making something new or a design and 3D printing that. Will be interesting to see how things develop though.

That's an old video, I'm really glad it still helps! I should really update it. I use both still. What did you find hardest about the cameras in Blender? I find the (newish) physical camera in Max a bit annoying when I tutor people Max, I should really do an update on that. However, luckily Blender doesn't have the physical camera so it makes things simpler explanation in that sense at least! The main problem I found when getting used to Blender was the lock camera to view the main thing to get used to.
