Definitely Toyota engine. If im not wrong a 2.4 2AZFE, L4 cylinder in some Camry & most mid size Toyota cars Some from 2002-2007. upgrade in the 2008-2015 Scion & Toyota shared. Some upgrades, same style 2.4 minor changes in design.

Watched my dad do that on a Nash Metropolitan. He then rebuilt it in the kitchen, mom was pissed. He was a Sargent in the Air Force and we were in an apartment with no garage.

My granfather did that, according to my dad. My grandfather was a well known and highly regarded Mechanic in Belize. And had to manhandle for the lack of modernity tools.
