Thanks for Sharing........Putting an Oil Filter on the VW Air Cooled Engine is a Big Positive. With the external filter that you installed, it will eventually fail when the rubber lines "cook" and rupture causing all the oil to rapidly leak out, destroying the engine. Those line cross through the air that passes over the fins engine and exhaust making them hot. They probably should be replaced with hard metal lines or stainless steel braided lines. The other issue is you want to min. heating oil your by trying to avoid these hot spot. Finding the right place to put an external oil filter on these engines has always been a challenge.

Great Video! Hey what size fuel hose do you use? I think I have nailed down the fuel filter part numbers (7023006D and 702323) but I wasn't sure which size fuel hose to use. Is it 1/4" or 3/8"? I'm making me a parts list to buy. My tank needs to come out and get flushed for sure. I think all the rain we got here in GA wasn't too friendly on the bug.

@@KevinBoswell-l1r you want low pressure but high flow. Too much pressure will overpower the float and flood your engine

Great work and nice Video and i was curious i saw you removed the charcoal canister vent. do your tank just vent via your gas cap and did you see some issue of pressure and also gas smell, i got a 75 and i will love to removed my canister. and keep it sample.

@Mars36912 make sure you have a vented cap. I had a horrible smell of fuel before with it all leaking so the little scent right after fill up wasn't so bad. You could probably use a small generic canister off amazon if you want a cleaner look

You soak it in water to prevent the fibers from going airborne and breathing it in. You don’t have to soak it.

Be sure to get a fire extinguisher in your car the filter is a great idea ❤ however the oil filled rubber hoses running through your exhaust isn't you could have run steel tubbing threw and used a small piece of hose on each to allow for a little flex and insolate lines with heat wrap much safer

That cut off wheel is no joke if it kicks back and catches your T-shirt!!! Your homebuild will have to wait till you get back from being stitched up in the ER. Depending on where it digs in to your flesh. I've worked in machine shops since 1994 so I've seen a few mishaps. I would say the angle grinder with cut off wheel has inflicted some of the gnarliest lacerations to date. Hope this saves someone a trip to the ER. That being said. Nice upgrades on the kart!
