A little dream of mine is to one day see a green jay. When I was a kid on a camping trip with my family, my dad had a reference book on bird species that I was looking at. When I saw the illustration of the green jay I was mesmerized and have never forgotten it. Such exotic beauty!

@@birdbits Fantastic! I didn't know they came up that far north of the very southern tip of TX (Brownsville, Harlingen, McAllen, etc.). So happy for you!

I live in Uvalde and there are a pair of green jays coming to my feeder almost every morning. Now we are seeing a younger one just slightly smaller than the first two. Makes my wife and me feel very privileged to see and enjoy them.

I'm in orange grove down here for work and have briefly seen these birds... The neighbor said there is a whole bunch of them that have a nest in a palm tree somewhere in OG he didn't know where. Do you know where they are? Also what kind of birds are they?
@birdbits8 жыл бұрын
+patty dukes Patty, Welcome to Orange Grove! They are Wild Monk Parakeets and have been here for years ... I am on Ryan St and they fly through here still daily. But they have a nest right now a few blocks away that is on West Soyars Ave which is off of Eugenia St. There are 4 big palm trees on one side of West Soyars Ave and they have a big community nest in one of the middle ones .. you will probably hear them before you see them because they are so vocal and they blend into the trees so well :-) I have posted other videos on here about them too... Happy wing flaps to you, Birdbits

We have a large pond in our back yard and we found hundreds of these strands in there. We kind of have a toad problem lol. At night all you can hear is their mating noises. I suppose you could call ours Canadian Toads :P

My old apartment was situated so that it was a great place for feeding wildlife, and one of my favorite things was when a family of cardinals would first bring their babies to feed on our porch, with both mother and father carefully watching over them, as they were shown were the seeds came from...

Clever construction on that feeder. At about 5 seconds in I hear mourning doves... I love that sound!

Toad tadpoles don't get to big; about half an inch. Once the eggs hatch, i stick the tadpoles in with my goldfish; they chew 'em up and spit `em out... sorta like bubble gum! After about 3 times of doin this, they just ignore them. the tadpoles clean fish tanks and ponds real good.

Were they in your pond before you transfered them to the natural pond? Looks kinda nasty. Never seen toads eggs before. Do they turn into tadpoles like frogs?
