3:49 Terrible restart. Asleep. Car all hung out off of 4. Lucky you didn't get picked off. What are we racing here? Wingless 360s? Reach down and shut your fuel approx. 3/4 off on starts & restarts. Makes engine jump. Just like Sammy does. Watch his left hand. Hear the engine lean out and rev up? That's not his right foot. --> kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmioo6WJerOcoc0

A non-wing sprint car is a wicked mutha' It has a mind of its own. A winged sprint car has the wing so it is still a monster but it's kind of stable and it will pretty much go where you aim it. A non-winged car will do what you tell it to for the most part but it will bite you. I go to a non-wing track in Indiana called Gas City and man do they put on a show. You can pretty much expect someone is gonna lose and probably get some air..... they pick up speed when the car barrel rolls. They track crew is pretty good and the sprint cars are backing it in and pulling wheelies. I used to play pit monkey for a family friend that ran a 410 winged sprint car. Chuck Wilson was his name and he was always a threat. We were at a season ending crazy race called The Dealers Choice. There was 12 different divisions running. There might have been more but 12 sticks in my head. Well it's in the middle of October so pretty much everyone in the state of Michigan brought there race car. They started on Monday and started racing on Wednesday. We got done on Sunday afternoon. So they were running winged and non winged sprint cars. They ran the winged cars then they ran super lates and limited lates to give us time to pull the wing off and change torsion bars and he adjusted on the shocks a little. I got tired of taking the wing off and then putting it back on. Chuck told me that if you just took the wing off and went into turn 1 like you do in the wing car that it wouldn't even turn and it would just fly off the track. You have to run more torsion bar diameter when the wing is on because of the amount of downforce. The non-wing car got much smaller torsion bars so the car would have more suspension travel so the car would accept the banking etc. The car needed more gear because it wasn't dragging that big wing but it takes a lot of time to change the gears in the quick change rear end. The time consuming part is putting safety wire through each bolt head and doing safety wire is a bitch. It keeps the bolts from coming loose from the vibration. Chuck was good with or without the wing. He had been racing for at least 25 years or more and he used to run a midget until he crashed and broke his back. He laid on the mattress they had in their van because that was their home when they were on the road. He always pulled his trailer with a van. When a guy with a 360 cu in motor runs in the open sprint class because there is no 360 class you can tell who has a 360 and who has a 410. Chuck used to say that the 410 car has such a big advantage. A 360 guy that is running a perfect race can hang with the 410 guys but one mistake and the 410 cars just walk away from him. There is about a 300-350 horsepower advantage and the 410 engine is all aluminum and the 360 block has to be cast iron. There are more differences with the fuel injection but I have to stop.... I apologize for the length of the post. I could keep blabbing about the 52 years I have spent at the races. Started at 4 yrs old.

A lot of push/lose going on. Most people do not understand how quickly a sprint car reacts. They can react quite violently, especially for someone with no experience.
