Never understood why theyre called "Lionfish" - Should be more like "TurkeyFish" or "Featherfish"

What happened with fish next? Is grouper die?

i can NOT carry 1 million specific anti venom creams for 1 million venom fish and venomous insects, i can ONLY carry ammonia and baking soda, do they work on lion fish stings? they work on bees. maybe wasps too but wasps venom can melt your skin much faster, so too late to apply ammonia or baking soda, but probably better than nothing.

I think it great that hundreds of divers are being really creative in showing everything from sharks to eels how to make a meal of these marine vacuum pests. They don't get nearly enough credit from the conservationists.

Salt water fish are very intelligent. Both of those fish are very smart but the lion fish doomed itself by swimming out into open water. It was just a matter of time.

Man,it has to be pretty insulting to get swallowed alive despite being coated in hypodermic needles. All that evolution at play,a clear advantage,and the grouper just completely ignores it. I’d be fuming in fish afterlife.

The reason for the lion fish infestation in many coral reefs is due to the large number of groupers being caught by fishermen to be sold in markets.

I remember early in the 1980's my Dad had a 100 gallon long saltwater tank and he had one of those Lion Fish in the tank. He would feed the Lion Fish some goldfish he had in a feeder tank.

I like how as the grouper swims around the lionfish, the lionfish always instinctively turns it's body with the spine facing the grouper.

The Grouper seemed to be trying to find the lionfishes head before striking. It mat have encountered them before and was avoiding the spines. It is to be encouraged and rather than the warning in the video, there should be encouragement. Using them as bait as often as possible.

Good to see grouper have a taste for lionfish. Now people need to stop fishing for grouper, so they can grow their populations and wipe out the lionfish. For a long time, though, that grouper was thinking: “How the hell do I eat this thing?”

I think as long as the grouper eats it head first spines will lay flat and stay that way as it passes through. The grouper was definitely concerned at which angle it swallowed it

I think the grouper didn't necessarily herd the lionfish, and instead just followed it,, but did so knowing that out in the open, the lionfish would be easier to get. It certainly looks as though it's a very challenging takedown with a very specific technique, meaning the other grouper would just get in the way. As for the other grouper staying back, I think of it as an apprentice when the lead is going to do the task. The beginner can do the task, but will be slower, and need more concentration, so if the master moves in to work on the task, even if they intend to be able to work together, the beginner is unable to stay focused and move smoothly with the master, so stands aside to hand tools if needed, but mostly observe in a learning role. As for why the lionfish moved out into the open, I think that although it is better able to defend itself using cover, the particular cover it tried to achieve was not adequate enough, meaning that the lionfish needed to actively position it's defenses, and because of the current, it was unable to safely keep it's spines aligned without bumping into the reef. So, although it would have been better off where it was, it had to focus on the grouper, so lost track of the reef. It was already desperate at the beginning of the video, and fully in the shock of being preyed upon. As the current from the waves pushed it back and forth, it would get out of position, and wind up needing to make some space from the reef to keep it's spines aligned, resulting in a few fatal turns away from the reef, until it was too far out of cover, and had no choice but to try and stay aligned out in the open. Once out in the open, though, it was just a matter of time before it tired from having to focus so hard on the grouper. The grouper was able to keep its focus more relaxed, as it only needed full effort on concentration when it was going to try and seek a strike, so while circling it could save it's "focus time", meanwhile the lionfish did not have this luxury, because to lose sight of the grouper for an instant would leave it vulnerable. After a short while, the lionfish was unable to keep it's concentration and while resting it's focus became vulnerable, which is when the grouper hit the first time. Once the lionfish was stunned, it was no longer a hazard, and the grouper could then take it.
