Made it myself. If you'd like one like it I offer them on my website at Studentofwarcustoms.com The design on my website has changed a bit because the one in the video was pine so needed the extra width for the additional weight. The ones I make now are made of oak and much closer to what Musashi actually used.

I'd like to send my dragonfly to you for some handle work possibly. Quick question, can you source a similar teal-colored ito that it comes with? If possible I'd like a new, slightly longer tsuka (bringing it from 11.5in to 13inch) but the ito it comes with will be too short for the new one I'm assuming, but I really love the color. Thank you for your time.
@StudentOfWarCustomsАй бұрын
Hello!!! I can try to find some ito to match what's on there. As for a longer tsuka that probably won't be doable. If I remember right this one had a tsuka that was 3" longer than the nakago which is already longer than recommended by most sensei so to make a 13" tsuka wouldn't be a good idea. Most sensei say a tsuka should be no longer than 2" longer than the nakago. No problem!!!
@Origin_SphereАй бұрын
@StudentOfWarCustoms Thank you for your response, I have a katana with a 9" tang and 14" tsuka and never had any problems even after many years of cutting practice, but if you're not comfortable making a longer tsuka I understand, In that case I will just rewrap it myself with its existing wood and ito to make it tighter, thank you again for your time.

Heard about this issue a while back, and ended up buying the Deepeeka version. They're made of EN45 spring steel, and any welding along the shaft was done thick and smoothed over with a grinder. It's less polished, but feels sturdy. Even a little play between the half and head can cause damage to the haft, so I plan on using Chicago screw rivets to hold it in place like you would see on a practice katana tang. The white oak shaft would need to break before it comes loose.

is that a zastava stock ? I am trying to retrofit a cleaning kit storage compartment door in my M70 but cant seem to find the right parts....
@StudentOfWarCustomsАй бұрын
No, this is a kvar stock on a WASR. Yugo AKs didn't have a spot for a cleaning kit. That said when I had an n-pap I was always curious if the stock screen channel could be turned into one. Normally the channel goes deeper so you'll probably need a shorter screw and you'll need to drill that channel longer.
@danielsimonleyva1650Ай бұрын
@@StudentOfWarCustoms that was my thinking too, so I got an SKS end plate with trap door, the main hole alights fine, the diameter is a bit smaller so the door wont go in. and the fixation screws don't align either.... on to of all that zastava's butt stock shape is "rounder" so the metal plate won't fit at all...
@StudentOfWarCustomsАй бұрын
I'd stick with the original butt pad. From what I remember it has metal in it, not just rubber. And if you wanted you coukd put a layer of something under the buttpad.

Polymer guide rods are absolutely cheaper to manufacture. Maybe there are benefits to using a polymer rod over a steel one but when it comes to a company as large as beretta, I don’t think they would be opposed to bringing cost down.
@StudentOfWarCustomsАй бұрын
I'm sure it is cheaper to make a polymer guide rod than a steel one but to say the real reason is money is wrong. The US military wanted the M9 to be lighter, only so many ways to lighten an M9. Additionally when it comes to the trigger it's highly doubtful that it's cheaper. The trigger isn't 100% polymer, it's polymer coated steel.

the dragon fly katana i got from them shockingly had zero Qc issues but it feels like a sledgehammer hahah
@StudentOfWarCustomsАй бұрын
I understand that. I've now had the opportunity to hold a few Cold Steel katana and sadly none of them are really worth the money in my opinion, way too heavy and unbalanced. Maybe their tanto would be ok 🤷🏻♂️. I still have yet to figure out how Lynn Thompson can claim he trains yet designs all these overweight swords.
@TONEDEAFSOUNDАй бұрын
@@StudentOfWarCustoms yeah they’re a really strange style of sword. i’m honestly really fond of big beefy blades but it never really made sense why they chose unokubi zukuri to beef up i would have preferred a beefy shobu zukuri over that. i agree they’re not worth the money, especially in todays market i was lucky to get one for $200 i always like the theme of it and with one quick laquer for the ito it was right as rain. definitely not worth $700 that cold steel is charging for it tho haha
@StudentOfWarCustomsАй бұрын
In my opinion in full length katana the dragonfly is probably the only decent one. Still heavier/more tip heavy than I prefer but it's down to what I think is a reasonable weight and pob could be adjusted to make it better. When I was in my teens I preferred a beefier blade but especially with modern steels I learn it's not necessary, lighter blades handle better and usually actually cut better because what they lack in weight they make up for in being able to be accelerated quicker. Lol sadly very little Cold Steel sells I think is worth full mrsp. I don't get where they think their swords are worth so much money. I'd put a dragon king or ryan sword against any Cold Steel katana and I'm sure the Cold Steel would lose in most of what matters. Build quality, weight, balance, etc. I was a huge hanwei fan back when they made good swords. Now I'd say get a dragon king. Dragon king feels a lot like the old hanwei katana.
