As a Scotsman, my partner is from Zim and she has tried to explain and calm my anger at this medieval practice, im all for traditions, but this is just disgusting, extorting money from the young to pay for the old, using examples of paying to raise the female is embarrassing and we are not talking a few dollors, but thousands.....this surely causes resentment towards inlaws?

Cultures are different all over the world. If you understand that you won't get angry at all. It's just a process to bring two families together. A son in-law is not expected to pay Lobola in one day no no. He can pay the little he has and still come back even many many years later to finish off.
