I sense that Hitchens objection to her was more to do with her faith then her actions. His obsessive hysterics over Christianity were misplaced and destructive. While an impressive speaker, he was no visionary.

Oof. Poor James Pinkerton. He was (and, now in his 60s, still is) an incredibly intelligent, savvy and well-regarded political analyst, but he is simply out of his depth here. And he knows it. I have to give him credit, though. He managed to stay in the ring without looking too much like a frightened deer -- a look we've all seen on more than a few of Hitchens' debate opponents.

NEWSDAY COLUNMIST James Pinkerton quickly brushes Gov. Jerry Brown working at Mother Teresa's side in helping the sick and dying doesn't mention the fat that Gov. Brown was staying Fairlawn Hotel in the central Calcutta commercial area known for its modest prices and English bric-a-brac and cooking. Had Gov. Brown donated his hotel and meal money to the sick and dying rather than self promoting his phoney care for the needy I might have developed a favourable view of Jerry.

Yet, the Anglosphere has thwarted the US CIVILIAN govt and treasonously imposed and maintained the institutionalized rule of English Common Law in violation of "Separation of Church & State". "First, we must understand that English common law is not civil law."... "Like the rest of creation, man is subject to laws laid down by the Creator. Man, unlike the rest of creation, has a certain degree of free will, but, says Blackstone, even this free will is governed and limited by God's law. Furthermore, man is not left to his own, fumbling around in search of an elusive law; rather God has affirmatively revealed His law so that man may find it acceptable." Then I realized, No One on this Earth is smart enough to create anything from nothing, much less everything from nothing. I love people (like you) enough to tell you God is Real and when I got saved, He changed my life. Just as you have faith that someone created every building you pass, I have Faith there is a God. Mother Teresa stayed in India for the first 30 years, never leaving the poor. Saint Theresa of the gutters lived in the poorest room, ate the worst food and did the most menial tasks. She was a saint revered by world leaders who wanted to meet her, including almost every US president. Hitchens was an atheist, and anyone who challenged him or was a Christian was attacked, including his brother, who respected his intellect but admitted that they were never close, but Peter Hitchen remains a follower of Christ ( see their religious debate on KZbin). Christopher Hitchens asked in this promotional video masquerading as an interview, " How do you know she (Mother Teresa )did any good in Calcutta ". What a stupid question. She personally served the Lepers and the dying on the streets. She set up a charity which now has 5000 people helping and assisting the poorest of the poor worldwide. In India alone, 61 children's homes are being served by The Missionaries Of Charity Organisation. Respect Christopher Hitchens's intellect but not his integrity. I'm sure he sold many books by speaking in interviews such as this.

Hitchens is great at doing his research of famous people and then sees them for the frauds they are it’s a shame Mother Theresa wasn’t a saint and maybe if she was she could have opened his eyes to Jesus instead allowing him to see how corrupt the Catholic Church is.

The hospitals of Mother Teresa were places of squalor, staff were untrained, nothing was sterilised & no comfort given. She openly advocated suffering as spiritual. It was a scam & she was a con artist who was made a Saint for the money she raised for the Vatican. She was a callous woman void of morality and compassion, completely in tune with the ethics of Catholicism; the originators of empty virtue signalling.

Interesting, so Higgins criticizes her on: - opposing abortion and contraception - accepting humanitarian awards from world leaders. - visiting orphanages that saved children (who I presume he is saying would have had a better ... Life... Had they been aborted/ not born) And for funsies, I'll throw in two more: - I think he says somewhere he visited her hosPICES (not hosPITALS) and was shocked to find that a third world home for the dying and destitute rejected by hospitals were not up to par with first world hospiTAL conditions - and to add to this, that these hosPICIS (that were run by nuns and brothers, and sometimes first world doctor short-term volunteers) did not have medicine that at the time India banned the use of (by non medical staff- meaning the use of morphine, she did use lower pain killers) and that the brothers and nuns would not actually know or be trained to use fancy ultrasounds, and other medical machinery that he argues her foundation should have brought into the THIRD WORLD HOSPICES FOR THOSE REJECTED BY ACTUAL MEDICAL HOSPITALS AND RUN BY NUNS AND BROTHERS.

If you are determined to prove Hitchens' opinions (which he was always able to back with facts, sometimes even dates)wrong...Where are your proofs of facts? No factual proof for your opinions make them that... opinions as well. Christian theology is not a fact based thing, it is as it says it is, a FAITH. Which is a BELIEF in things which are not seen (in other words no factual proof, just a belief only). (Hebrews 11:1, 6 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.) AND Jesus even said that those who "believed" without seeing were even "blessed" (John 20:28-29 KJV And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.) And I agree with HITCH...all that wealth Mother Theresa gathered in which she claimed to be helping the needy NEVER went to the needy...it was used to build buildings for the Nuns, and the Church....the places she used to "treat" the needy where filled with people simply waiting to die...and she did NOTHING to ease that suffering or try to treat their illnesses...only gave them a bed to comfortably die on. The Catholic church simply takes money from the masses which are predominantly poor to redistribute it back to them for other purposes, and then brag upon their "good works", and yet also the majority of that wealth is actually used for the support of the Church itself, not the poor. PROVE ME WRONG with FACTS if my statements here are wrong. I am an agnostic who is thinking daily of becoming an atheist myself. The religions of the world are about control of the masses, and garnering wealth for the elite, and the churches...convince me otherwise with facts...NOT FAITH!

Hitchens calls out hypocrisy, and ONLY uses facts to espouse his beliefs. His detractors NEVER seem to have any factual points to counter his points. They use hyperbole, and basically word salad to try to deny his points.

@j.knight9335 not to convert anyone - but to create end of life "care" facilities, built specifically to prolong how long people barely hold onto life without fully dying, being in as much pain as possible the whole time. Her idea was that dying that way brings people closer to Christ. So just instituting systems of torture, because she thought it was the best way to help people enter heaven, and the more people she forced to suffer the more people she was helping. Again, absolutely evil.

Contraception/Family Planning ... of course that's the last thing the Irish peop- (oops) the Pope wants. The Papal Big Daddy is their Holy Father, and if they cut down on unwanted pregnancies the Pope would lose a helluva lot of his future canon fodder. (Yes, I do know how to spell cannon.) (Think about it ...) Abortion, a threat to World peace? How? The fewer 'unwanted' people to support, the less the drain on limited resources, no? That phone lady has the stage and pushes American politics, is that how some/many/most/all 'think'? Or is it just their religious cranks? There is NOT enough people around like Christopher Hitchens. If I had known more about religion and how it poisons everything, I would have left my great-grandmother’s grandmother’s mother’s religion that was passed down to me. I ended that practice with my daughters. This reign of tradition and believing has ended with my line.
